The paternal side, of course.  We never saw a woman selling them.  The
women were selling at small shops in the old Arab and Jewish sections of
Jerusalem.  Steve and I passed a spice shop on our way to get some
frankincense, would have loved to have stopped and shopped a bit there.
Don't know if we could have imported them tho.  They were all laid out
in small dishes on top of fair sized sacks; didn't take the time to to a
smell test but they all lookd really good.

-> she gave me one.  We bought a set of malachite beads alternating with

It would probably give most of the computers around here fits.

An H. Stern store.  They have several branches in the States; no qualms
about the quality there.


 A green stone that shows up in Israel sometimes is one called
 RH> Eilat, but chances are malachite is a lot cheaper.  The Eilat deposits

Don't know much about it; I don't recall that name from college geoogy
class either.

 Something else that turns up is

I saw the write up but didn't see any of that kind of jewelry. I guess
it depends on where you are in country to determine if you see it for
sale or not.  We covered quite a bit of territory but the vendors
weren't always around.

You, for knowing about it.  I was given 4 of the 7 pieces I came back
with.


-> We had supper the one night in Bethlehem.  It was similar to the buffets

We passed the King David, stayed at the old Rennisannce that has been
taken over by Ramada.  It has seriously gone down hill from what it was
at one time.  Your story about the tourist asking why no bacon with eggs
is sad but true with a lot of people, especially Americans, not familiar
with the Jewish dietary laws.  Steve and I did some explaining of them
to some of our group who weren't really familiar with them.  At
breakfast the first day, we saw a hot dish with what looked sort of like
crepes or pale burritos in it.  Some dishes were labled; this one
wasn't.  It hit me a few seconds later that it was blintzes.  Cheese
filled, would have been really good if they had a fruit sauce to go with
it instead of what looked like a honey one.
