Hi Janis,

JK> > Sorry to take so long in getting back to you but we were away for

JK> messed > up on the level above where we point from. It was corrected

JK> to sit down and > read Fido.

JK> No problem.. we've been sick as dogs here haha.. just a bad flu that
JK> decided to come and visit.. all respiratory, tons of chicken soup, tea
JK> and lemon/honey later, we're finally becoming human again (grin). I
JK> know about the feed problems too, that you had. I was made aware of
JK> them because the problem you noticed affected a good number of people
JK> in Fidonet ... it couldn't be fixed until Saturday as you noticed but
JK> back-up systems for that HUB are planned for the future I believe.

And I had enough to keep me busy elsewhere. So far, neither of us has
had the flu (or anything close to it) this season. Hopefully we won't
get it; I don't need that on top of everything else. But, we are well
stocked on teas, just in case. Got a good assortment last winter when
Steve had some sort of but to add to our on hand assortment. We've
added more since, as well as various honeys.

JK> > But in the south, pork is king. Beef and chicken are just an
 JK> > afterthought. (G)

JK> hehe.. that is very very true :)

I've lived in the south long enough, gee, how long has it been? Long
enough to know I prefer it to the north in winter time. (G)

JK> > If I'm going to use it as a lunch meal within a day or so, I'll just

JK> times, is > quite tight.

JK> Yes, that will save space :) Oh, we just bought some more toys for
JK> the center island.. Now I'm getting excited haha.. we bought a small
JK> 'frige that we'll put right in the island, and also a dishwasher that
JK> is actually made of two drawers you pull out and fill .. each draw has
JK> a rack/drain, etc. in it, so you can say wash dishes/glasses in one
JK> drawer on one cycle, and pots and pans in the other drawer on another
 JK> cycle :) It's incredibly nice :) Here's a link to it:
 JK> http://www.fisherpaykel.com/dishwashing/?productUid=412DD50A-B06B-D6F2
JK> C68E6914 4A497BCB. It's supposed to be here Friday.. Should keep Ron
 JK> a little busy :)

I've seen them on tv; they look interesting. Does the dishwasher hold
as much as a standard one or more? I generally wash pots & pans by hand
but sometimes have lots of "regular" dishes & my standard dishwasher is
rather full. We generally run it every couple of days, every day over
the week end, unless I've gone on a cooking spell. Then it gets run as
it gets full. I should be getting a new quilting frame/machine either
tomorrow or Friday; we'll both have new "toys" to play with over the
week end.

JK> > Better him than my 2 nephews in AZ; between the 2 of them, their dad
JK> > didn't get any of the pie I left there after Thanksgiving dinner 5

JK> haha.. leave it to the kids to clean up the pie :) :) though
JK> typically from what I remember it was the "dad"s who also were guilty

My BIL didn't have a chance with those two pie vultures.

JK> > ago. Their mom (my sister) doesn't bake so they've always scarfed
JK> up my > home baked treats.

JK> Well, we can't blame them then :)

No, and I'm glad they appreciate the goodies. Our girls always felt
sorry for the older one (the younger one was born when our girls were in
their late teens) because he didn't have all the home made cookies I
used to do at Christmas or the year round goodies.

JK> > I've used it in regular baking bu not tried it in a pie crust yet.
JK> > Steve used it to make tortillas a couple of weeks ago, again
 JK> > successfully.

JK> Should work fine if it tastes well enough in normal cooking.. if the
JK> texture is much like margarine or butter, the crust should be flakey
JK> enough I would think.. That's what is so nice about coconut oil.. it's
JK> so solid, it works much like Crisco but without all those horrible
 JK> trans-fats :)

It's been a long time since I bought a thing of crisco, and then it was
the small one. Took a long time to use it up too. Last night I made a
"throw together, use up what's on hand that needs using" chili. Had
about 1/3 of a pound of buffalo (ground) meat in the freezer so I used
that. Since it's so lean, I grabbed a small thing of chcken fat I had in
the fridge and used a couple of tablespoons of that to brown the meat,
pepper and onion. Came out pretty good. (G)

JK> > That's about how I do most everything these days--slow and easy.
JK> I'm in > my final week of treatment but understand side effects can

JK> I don't remember my son's lingering especially long but I think it
JK> might depend on how one takes to the treatment in general if you know
JK> what I mean.. Everyone is different, and there's nothing that says you
JK> won't be just fine so we can hope for the best for ya :)

Thanks, 2 more to go. It's the "all of a sudden I've got to take time
out, I'm too tired to continue" feeling that's the biggest bother. The
advantage of being a stay at home vs out working is that most of the
time, I can just stop and rest until I get my energy back.

JK> > Years ago, I did get the uncleaned squid and did it myself. Now,
JK> with so > many other factors, it's so much easier to get it pre
JK> cleaned. Little > things like that do make a big difference in my
 JK> quality of life.

JK> You mean you don't like having to clean all that goopy purple gunk out
JK> of your sink??? (ME NEITHER!! (g)) hehe.. my cats used to go crazy

Just the time it takes to clean, vs using the pre cleaned makes a big
difference. It means supper at a decent hour vs supper close to bed
time, especialy if a tired spell comes on while doing it.

JK> when I made squid though. When I did buy the big package of the whole
JK> guys, I used to give them the heads, they were very appreciative :)

And what cat wouldn't be appreciative? The last time I did it, we had a
dog who we didn't let get into such things.
