The state of the arts is pretty dire. The orchestra in Honolulu
is back playing, if not comfortably: for a while it wasn't even
performing. As far as guest artists waiving fees, that's bad for
future guest artists; better I think to give the money to the
musicians' pension fund, where it's locked away and not subject
to use for current operating expenses.

And a good one it was, sounds like, and worthwhile from the knowledge
standpoint as well. My Jewish friends have been leaning on me to go;
I have enough miles to get me there; just waiting for enough hotel
points to accumulate so that I don't take yet another big hit. Also,
I've got to figure out the passport situation - I'd want an Israel
trip to be after a Singapore/Indonesia/Malaysia one so as to be the
last thing on the passport before it goes away (2011). Otherwise an
Israel stamp might make it tough for me to make my usual visits to
those Muslim countries (which, even though they tend to tolerate
alcohol, don't do well by Israel and Jews).

Pretty much.

Noodles with honey and poppy seeds
cat: Jewish, milch
serves: 6 to 8

1/2 c honey
1/2 c light cream
1/2 c milk
1/4 c poppy seeds
4 c cooked medium noodles, drained

Cook first four ingredients together for 5 min. Stir in noodles.
Serve hot.
