========================
Hi Hap,

-> I've been busy with a doctor's appointment, shopping, usual Sunday stuff
-> and school. Working on a paper due Thursday for the last one, a bit

 hn> We're up to the eyebrows with Dr's appts
 hn> as well. Everytime Anne gets a new prescription
 hn> or appointment we have to get it cleared through
 hn> the workman's comp caseworker. Now we are
 hn> scheduled to see "their" neurosurgeon this weekend
 hn> so he can "determine" if it's an on the job injury.

And being poked & prodded at every visit. No fun, I'm sure but you've
got to satisfy the bean counters.

 hn> They say it's merely a "formality" but I'm sure that
 hn> his job is to do his best to get the workman's comp
 hn> company off the hook if he can. In a perverse sort
 hn> of logic I'd almost hope he does, as it is now we've
 hn> had to wait and wait till things get approved before
 hn> we can take any action. Anne's injury happened in
 hn> November and we still have not done anything that
 hn> has really helped her yet. if it were not an on the
 hn> job injury we would not have to wait, we could
 hn> DO things as soon as they were recommended.

Do you have a punching bag at home? Sounds like like you can use one to
get rid of some of the frustration over the situation. It's hard to wait
but will probably be better in the long run. Does her retirement plan
give extra for job related injuries?

-> hn> Oh I know, Anne's mom still lives on Long Island.

-> Makes you wonder why people still chose to live there. (G)

 hn> Anne's mom has lots of relatives still there
 hn> although a bunch of them have moved to
 hn> Florida. My Brother in law lives with Mom,
 hn> and she still has two jobs that she loves.
 hn> I don't think she'll ever move away, as long
 hn> as she can afford to stay there.

We've got a good amount of family up there too--all of Steve's siblings;
my parents, a brother and a sister on my side. I've no desire to move
back. How was Anne's mom affected by the latest storm; it looked like
Long Island got hit hard.

->  hn> Ah but you're still a young lass!

-> We will celebrate our 35th anniversary in September; Rachel & David have
-> their 13th this year.

 hn> We have our 37th coming up this month.

See, we're not too far behind you.

-> hn> they found canned goods that had been
-> hn> there for over 30 years. My grandfather
-> hn> did not even know how to open a can!

-> I wouldn't be surprised if my folks might have some that old in the
-> cellar that were put up on a shelf & forgotten about. I've heard
-> stories, too, about years old stuff being found in a freezer. The
-> advantage of moving every so often. (G)

 hn> Yep!

We brought a couple of cans of coconut milk with us with our last move,
used it this week end to make haupia. Our church has small groups that
meet each week, most of them on Sunday afternoon or evening in various
member's houses. We have a meal, discuss the message and have
accountability time. Steve and I cooked Hawaiian for our group
yesterday; it started from a discussion on pork bbq the one week. We
also had mochi, kalua pig (done in the crock pot), Portugese (Hawaiian)
sweet bread, rice and spinach salad. I know, the last isn't authentic
but we couldn't get any poi so made a subsitution for that & mac salad.
It was a big hit with everybody. I made a couple of loaves (only
brought one) of the bread, whole wheat version, and we bought another
(white) one. Kids liked the white, adults, the whole wheat.

-> hn> have dropped the price from nothing to
->  hn> free!

-> Sounds like the way my SS Director "salary" worked, but in reverse, when
-> we were in AZ. Benefits, tho, are out of this world.

 hn> Smiles and thank you's are priceless!

Also hugs and invitations to join the older men's class. (G)

-> hn> Yes, all in one meal, and there was even more!
-> hn> Gjetost cheese (yum!!), oatmeal, cheeses,
-> hn> and more, we usually made a big sandwich
-> hn> for later in the day! She was a terrific lady

-> Stuffed, before the day even got going good. But, it was energy for the
-> skiing. I'd have done good to eat a small portion of it.

-> hn> and also owned the ski shop where we
-> hn> bought our cross country ski gear.
-> hn> She has since passed away and I often
-> hn> wonder what is happening to that big
-> hn> log cabin home she had.

Try contacting a relative or doing some internet exploration.

-> hn> lived off the land when camping and
-> hn> hiking often. I can trap, make snares
-> hn> fish traps, and forage quite well.

-> Kind of hard to do some of that in the arctic areas. Otherwise, take
-> along a good book to ID local plants, etc.

 hn> Arctic is easier than antarctic though!

Got that in one. (G)
