Ärende: Catching up...AGAIN! :) [1]
====================================================================
Hi Janis,

JK> > All went smooth; the GPS directed us on some back roads in PA we'd
JK> never > been on before.

JK> Interesting :) We don't have one.. I was thinking of getting one for
JK> my son though since he's in MD... With his vision, it might be really
 JK> helpful.

He'd probably appreciate it. A couple of years ago, Rachel moved to one
of the newer developments on the outskirts of Las Vegas. I kidded her
about needing a GPS; she got one about a year ago. We got ours about 3
years ago; it's not perfect but sure beats fussing with paper maps.
We've found that it will usually take us a slightly different way on a
return trip than the way it directed us to get to a place quite often.
That, and our penchant to addle its poor little brain every so often
have made it fun to have. Other times it can be annoying but I guess
that's the trade off.

>> it was great. After I stuffed it I covered it with garlic salt, pepper
>> and thyme.

>> ===Leg of Lamb Roast===

JK> > Somewhere I've got that, from when you posted it while we were in
JK> GA. > We tried it and liked it then; have to find it and consider
 JK> doing it
 JK> > with this roast.

JK> My grandmother gave me that recipe when I was about 17 and spending a
JK> lot of time cooking with her. I probably mentioned to you that you
JK> can use the same recipe in roast beef.. Now I'M getting hungry Lol

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, might try it with beef some time. It sounds like an Olde
Country recipe; those are usually simple but good.

JK> > HAd to be back for Steve's Monday morning class. We'd not been to
JK> our > church in several weeks so we wanted to be there for Easter

JK> Sure, makes sense. That probably felt great being there for Easter as

Yes, it was good to be back home and catch up with most of the folks.
Some were gone for Easter but were back by this past Sunday.

>> We > stopped in Hancock & got 4 quarts of maple syrup, some maple

JK> > That sounds great :) I used to love stopping for such when
 JK> > we'd go up JK> to Vermont.

JK> > What, you don't buy NY State maple syrup? Heresy! But, I did have
JK> a > Vermont maple hard candy recently--not seen those in NY.

JK> haha :) Actually I do indeed buy NYS maple syrup and at some of the
JK> orchard's here, you can also get maple candy such as you'd find in
JK> Vermont :) But we have enjoyed going up north to visit Ron's
JK> relatives in Connecticutt - and sometimes we travel a bit since we're

I'm just a purist, having been raised on the NY State syrup. I've never
seen anything but the soft candies until a friend brought some of the
hard ones from VT to church a few weeks ago.

JK> up there. We're supposed to go up for a visit in May, but I'm not
JK> sure if we'll do that.. it gets complicated with pups
 JK> :)

Sure does; one could be enough of a "what do we do with........." but
add others in and it's a major issue.

JK> had > in years (tapioca, rice pudding) and got mom's pantry turntable
JK> & spices > cleaned out & sorted. Plus a bunch of meals for them in
 JK> the freezer.

 JK> That's wonderful :) I did the same for my in-laws a few times - was
JK> great for them since they could possibly skip some of the frozen
JK> supposedly 'healthy' dinners at the grocery store... which were so bad

They don't buy the "healthy dinners" at the store but Mom adds (too much
for their own good) salt to just about all she cooks. One time she
added it to the water for something & a few minutes later said something
on the order of "now did I salt the water for this or not?" so I was
able to tell her that she had. Wonder how many times she does double
(or more) salt these days with the way her mind is going.

 JK> for my father-in-law
JK> especially, at the time. I bet your parents were very very
JK> appreciative of all that you accomplished there (grin).

Mostly so. Steve put a lot of time & work into my Dad's computer set
up. Turbo Tax had a big problem in the program this year; Steve found
out what it was & got it re-installed so my folks could do their taxes.
We did some kitchen clean up--Mom wasn't happy with all that was done
(throwing out old spices & a bottle of artificial sweetener we figured
to be 40-45 years old). Dad had asked that we do some more but we just
didn't have the time. So, when we go up for their anniversary
celebration, we'll finish the job.

>> Lol that is true.. right now they are bundles of energy, and are still
>> taking several naps throughout the day. When they're awake, they are
>> 1- buggy Toby to play, eating the rug off the floor in the mudroom
>> (argh!) or this week at least, playing with the grandboys :)

 JK> > IOW, typical puppies. (G)

JK> I'll say :) Little roughnecks too! Sophie is the smaller one of the
JK> two, but what she lacks in size she makes up in frenzy with wild
JK> attacks and pounces on Indy.. then all of a sudden you'll here Sophie
JK> yelping like she's going to die, and it's Indy getting her back with a
JK> vicious leg hold! I have to break them up so they don't tear up the
 JK> room they're in :)

Exasperating at times but good for lots of laughs other times, I'm sure.

JK> > Yes, my brothers used to suffer thru the ragweed. They got an AC in
JK> > their bedroom; we had a fan. I don't know how I'd react to ragweed,
JK> etc > now but don't want to try it.

JK> I've read recently that there is really no good place to be this
JK> year.. all the pollens in various states are at their worst this year,
JK> right now. The news blamed Oak tree pollen in the southeast.. sounds
JK> terrible :( they mentioned that they expect that to subside in a few
JK> weeks.. and then the grass, etc. pollens will pick up - I remember my
JK> brother coming in from trying to mow the grass, tears running down his
JK> face, but not from crying.. they were from allergies to the grass he'd
JK> been instructed to cut by Dad.. poor guy :( Even shots didn't help his
 JK> outdoors allergies..

It has been rough but I think the biggest burst is over. After a really
hard (cold) winter, everything started pollenating at the same time.

>> the pine > pollen. I stay inside as much as possible.
>> That does sound very bad :( I can understand your not going out!

JK> > It's not worth the risk to my health. We're supposed to get a heavy
JK> > rain tonight, knocking down some of it.

JK> Hope it did the job!

Somewhat; I'm still staying inside a lot and feeling the effects of
pollen, even when I go out on short trips.

JK> and > what method. The rosemary over wintered well and is back, big
 JK> time!

 JK> That's great :) I should have gotten one last year (g).

I'd sned you some of this, if I could make it last decently enough to
replant.

Catch you later,
