Ärende: Part 2, again [2]
=========================
Hi Janis,

>> of fact, that was how I got my stove "updated" by whirlpool after we
>> bought it. Seems the first version of their range had a problem with
>> water getting into the electronics via the stove top. That problem is
>> gone now, thank goodness :)

JK> > That must have been quite a problem--how did they expect you to keep
JK> it > clean if water got into the electronics via the stove top?
JK> Anyway, I > know you're glad that little issue is fixed.

JK> The early issue of the range (which is what we bought at lowes, on
JK> sale) allowed water to seep into the electronics where the stove top
JK> edge met with control panel in the front of the stove, it was two
JK> pieces. After I invoked the warranty (g), the repairman came from
JK> Whirlpool and replaced the entire stove top, with one that had a
JK> one-piece section into the control panel. Good bye problem (g). Bad
 JK> engineering I guess (g).

Bad design more like it. Good thing you had the paperwork and, more
importantly, they acknowledged they had a bad product.

>> One of my good friends died in High School from an Asthma attack.
>> He'd had it for a very long time, and had a very bad case of it. But

JK> > Really severe cases would tend to stand out. Medications weren't as
JK> > effective as they are now, even from when I was first diagnosed.
JK> Just > about all the ones from 25 or so years ago are no longer in
 JK> use.

JK> There are a lot of new drugs out there now for asthma.

Yes, I've been using Advair since 2001, relatively soon after it was put
on the market. I tried Singular but I'm allergic to it so that's no
help. I also tried Xopinex, a different form of propellant wasused in
that vs regular albuterol but went back to the regular albuterol. It
seemed to "deliver" the medication better.

>> I know what you mean. It does seem like there is a lot of asthma
>> "around" these days as opposed to when we were growing up.

JK> > I think doctors are more aware of it, for one thing. One of my
JK> friends > in Germany (also an asthmatic) tipped me to the thought that
JK> some of my > breathing issues could be asthma, told me to check with a
 JK> doctor. I
JK> > did, was tested and diagnosed as borderline then, well over the
 JK> border > now.

JK> It's hard to live with.. I remember how many precautions I had to take
JK> with my daughter.. no rug in her room, damp-mop the floor down every
JK> day, wash the walls down as frequently as I could.. no dustcollectors
JK> or collections of "things" laying about the room (or rooms in the
JK> house, either). I was glad when she outgrew it, for the two of us
 JK> (g).

I don't have it that severe. This house has carpeting all over; I'm not
entirely happy with that but can tolerate it. Of course no furries or
fuzzies but I get "fuzz therapy" visiting friends with pets. (G)

>> problems in dogs these days. We get them an organic good dog food, not
>> purina, etc. Letting a pup get too big too fast (before the joints
>> are ready, I suppose) may be the problem.

JK> > I see. We got Sam as a 4 year old, switched his diet from an ok but
JK> not > great food to Purina One. He liked all flavors but the lamb.
JK> My folks > had their dog shaved to get out lots of matts, tangles, etc
 JK> they
JK> > couldn't get--found out the dog is fat. "But he only gets 2 scoops
JK> a > day plus a couple of biscuits"........and enough table food to
 JK> make a > fat dog.

JK> That will do it.. then again, sometimes when a dog is neutered, it
JK> happens regardless of how much you feed it (or don't..). Priscilla is
 JK> a great
JK> example... poor girl was getting 2 cups twice a day normal feeding for
JK> her breed.. I cut it down to 1 cup twice a day, and still it didn't
JK> help. I even switched her to what the pet store told me was the only
JK> real "diet" dog food on the market, and she still had problems. She
JK> lost some weight but not enough.

It's not the food; it's how it's absorbed/used by the body. Same issues
as humans have.

>> > I've no idea how old this range is, or how many tenants have used it
>> > before we moved in. Right now it works, and that's what counts. If
>> it > dies, we don't pay for the new one.

>> That is a great benefit to renting.

JK> > Very good one, actually. (G) Same goes for the fridge. In our last
JK> 8 > months or so in GA, we had the fridge swapped out twice. Steve
JK> caught > the one going bad, just when he got back from Las Vegas
 JK> following
 JK> > Sarah's birth. If he'd stayed a couple of days longer, we'd have
JK> had > some ruined food. Second one went bad about 3 months later.

JK> It's one of the reasons we're hesitant to rent the upstairs apartment.
JK> We'd have to be ready for such occurances or rent to someone with the
JK> understanding that they'd be responsible for bringing and maintaining
JK> their own. We may do it someday.. not our idea of fun, though (g).

I understand. But, with an upstairs apartment, you've got to be extra
careful. Even if a tenant brings in his own fridge, if it "melts down",
you could have major water damage to your stuff. Some folks are better
at maintaining appliances than others; it would be up to you to decide
if you thought the potential tenant could do so or not. Tough choices
there.
