It is very unlikely that the price of oil will drop significantly.
That rate of payback would be very satisfying, with the additional
benefit of using renewable fuel rather than fossil.  So when are you
going to install a wood-burning stove?  When I was very young we had a
wood-burner, which was nice in winter, as it kept the kitchen cosy
warm.  Even after getting the gas stove, my parents often used the wood
stove in cold weather.  Wood stoves are still common in parts of New
Zealand, usually with a "wet back" - a water heating coil built in, and
connected to the hot water system.

      Title: Fried Okra
 Categories: American, Heirloom, Historical, Vegetables
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      1 lb Small okra pods
           Salt and pepper
    3/4 c  Corn meal
           Bacon fat
 
  Wash okra and cut off the ends of the pods, cut into 1/2 inch slices.
  Moisten slightly and shake in paper bag containing corn meal, salt,
  and pepper.  Fry in hot bacon fat until golden brown.
  
  If a left handed person squints, then he cannot be trusted.

  In the memories of some of us, few things can be better than a meal
  cooked on an old wood stove, a soft feather bed on a cold winter
  night, or the sound of a old mountain tune played on a dulcimer or
  banjo. I hope that this page can help preserve, or rekindle, some of
  these memories for you or maybe help create an interest in our
  mountain heritage for other people. Your ideas, stories, pictures,
  recipes, or other affairs about plain living in our southern
