That was well out of range.  I was worried about the 20 or so bottles
of wine and spirits which sat on top of the cupboards attached to one
of the cracked walls. Fortunately, although they may have moved a bit,
none fell down.  Kevin suggested that if any had fallen and broken, I
should find all the empty bottles I could, and smash them in with the
mess, so as to claim replacements for them also.

A nice thought, but as the structural engineer has already drawn a
plan of the place, I wouldn't get away with it.  As this is the second
time a car has gone through the fence at that location, perhaps I
could prevail on the council to build a crash barrier on the kerb.

I presume the accountant reasoned that it would be easier for the
hospital to give a refund of a too-high estimate than to get extra out
of a patient who already had the expensive prosthesis installed.

      Title: [BFT] Duke Of Atholl's Braised Haunch Of Venison
 Categories: British, Game
      Yield: 8 Servings
 
      2    Onions, chopped
      2    Carrots, sliced
      4    Sticks Celery, chopped
      2    Bay leaves
           Sprig Fresh thyme
           Handful Fresh parsley
        pn Ground mace
      4    Cloves, crushed
        pn Cayenne pepper
           Salt and freshly ground
           Black pepper
1 13/16 kg Haunch of venison (4 lb)
    900 ml Stock (1 1/2 pints)
    150 ml Red wine ( 1/4 pint)
 
  Venison was often served in the dining room of Blair Castle, home of
  the 10th Duke of Atholl, as deer roamed extensively in the hills
  surrounding the estate. This is one favourite method of preparation.
  
  Place all the vegetables in a large, deep flameproof casserole dish.
  Add the herbs, spices and seasonings.
  
  Place the venison on the bed of vegetables and pour on the stock.
  
  Bring to the boil, simmer and transfer to a moderate oven at 180 C /
  350 F / Gas 4 for 3 hours or until the meat is tender.
  
  Remove the meat, skim off any fat and add the wine.
  
  Reduce this cooking liquid rapidly, adjust the seasoning and serve
  with the venison.
