Those (in the top three pix) are "hydroplanes" Back in the late 50s - early 60s
we had the world championships of outboard racing boats here in the Great
American Outback - mostly at the lake club of which my mother was a charter
member (Television, Radio, Newspaper Club aka TRN Club). They ran hydroplanes
and runabouts in various classes. The runabouts are also flat bottomed and get
airborne just as readily as the hydroplanes. What happens is that the nose gets
up - from hitting a wake or a wave and air gets under the boat allowing it to
lift into the air even further. If you get too much air the boat goes to
vertical, then over backward and soon enough hits the water again - all out of
shape and begins making big splashes. The driver, hopefully, is not in the path
of following boats - those propellers are SHARP!!!

Yeah, they're noisy, too. Rather like a whole herd of pissed off mosquitoes.
