Funny, I thought that (aside from the problem of its food
being atrocious, and the cheese and lactose issue) this thing
would be a reason to revisit the joint. Sort of like wanting
to climb to the highest point in every state, including the
garbage dump in Florida.

I, myself, have eaten twice at Denny's. The first time was in
the wee hours in a godforsaken suburb along an Interstate. I
believe, but thirty years of blessed forgetfulness have taken
over, that I had a burger that would have done discredit to
an Automat. The second time, I was at the Radisson Miyako, at
that time an excellent hotel in San Francisco but whose
restaurant was under renovation. The front desk referred me
to a Best Western down the way, which referred me to Denny's.
I don't know why I was hungry for breakfast - most likely I had
a hotel meal voucher. Anyhow, I had loco moko (loco moco to you),
which was pasty rice, a burger patty that tasted like old man
smell (similar to what I have encountered on occasion at more
worthy chains, such as Johnny Rocket's, I may add), an egg
that managed to be sunny side and hard at the same time, and
some salty, metallic, burned gravy, of which there was not
enough. Worst breakfast ever. While there, I noticed a guy
getting change for the newspaper machine; later encountered
him at in the Radisson elevator. I remarked, lucky you didn't
actually eat there. He made an eloquent face of disgust and
said, worse luck, I did.

That part doesn't sound so bad to me.

Traditional or unconventional?

Does the calorie count include the fries?

Thanks for explaining. I thought extra ooze meant something else.

Peanut Butter Mochi
cat: Japanese, Hawaiian, sweet
yield: 36

1 1/2 c mochiko
1 1/2 c water
1 c sugar
Cooking spray
6 tablespoons creamy peanut putter
kinako (toasted soy flour)

Mix mochiko, water, and sugar in a bowl, stirring until smooth.
Coat the inside of a microwave bundt pan with cooking spray. Pour
mochiko mixture into prepared pan and microwave 5 min on high.
Cool in pan for 40 to 45 min. While still warm, cut mochi in half
with a plastic knife. Cut each half into 1/4" thick slices. Pull
or stretch each mochi slice. Using a plastic spoon, place 1/4-1/2
ts peanut butter in the center, fold in half, and pinch edges to
seal. Roll mochi on kinako. Makes about 3 dozen mini mochi.
