Having it on the glass teat and actively watching are often two quite different
things. Back in the day, as an active local racer, I aspired to NASCAR as it
seemed the pinnacle of the sport. Even had serious thoughts about blowing the
whole wad on a trip to Daytona to compete in the big race. One of the guys I
raced against went that year - and finished mid-pack. And we used to beat his
bunch like a dusty carpet. But, economic sense got the better of me -- and
realising that local short-track racing is *just* a hobby.

I was talking with my driver the other day - and we decided that for what it
would have cost (in 1978 $$$) to have made the trek - we could not even buy
tires for practice and qualifying (in adjusted for inflation $$$) these days.
One of my wiser decisions - although I agonised over it at the time.

Tastes differ, as does reaction to zippy mustard sauce.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Home Fries w/Garlic & Bacon
 Categories: Five, Potatoes, Pork, Vegetables
      Yield: 4 servings

      7 sl Bacon
      2    Russet potatoes; quartered,
           - thin sliced
      1 tb Garlic pepper seasoning *
    1/2    Yellow onion; sliced

  Fry the bacon in a large deep skillet over medium-high
  heat until evenly browned and crisp. Remove from the pan,
  and add the potatoes and onions to the bacon drippings.

  Season with garlic pepper. * Reduce the heat to medium,
  and cook the potatoes for about 20 minutes, stirring
  occasionally, until tender and browned. 

  Crumble bacon over the top before serving.

  * I'd add at least a clove of peeled, crushed/chopped
  garlic to this dish at this point. -- UDD
