One wonders about the economics of using so much fossil fuelled
electricity to extract more fossil fuel...

Fracking has been used in Queensland for many years to extract Coal
Seam Gas, which is mainly methane, trapped in coal.  This has provided
Queenslanders with cheap gas for cooking, etc.  Now the state
government has given licences for gas prospectors to start drilling in
fields beneath good farming land which relies on artesian water.  I
don't know what chemicals are injected into the coal seams with sand
and water, but it is claimed that they pollute the existing ground
water, so it cannot be used for any purpose by man nor beast.  The
farmers complain that they have no say on who drills on their
property, or the ownership of the possible gas beneath it.  Of course
the city dwellers appreciate the cheap COOKING (ontopic) gas.  The
debate continues in both state and Federal parliaments.

There are arguments over that, also, in the sea between Australia and
Timor Leste.

And most people like to cook with gas.

           Podocarpus elatus
 
  Illawarra plums are the delicious fruit of an evergreen rainforest
  tree that grows on the Eastern seaboard from Queensland to Northern
  NSW. The fruit has definite plum characteristics and also a slight
  resinous quality that imparts an unusual and quite refreshing after
  taste. The fruit has good nutritional properties and is particularly
  high in vitamin C. The Illawarra plum is a very convenient and
  delicious bush fruit to cook with. On average there are about 300
  plums to the kg, which is about 40 plums per metric cup. Illawarra
  plums make wonderful sauces for meats of all kinds, including game
  such as kangaroo, emu and venison. Delicious with lamb, poultry and
  surprisingly good with seafood. Great baked in cakes, muffins and
