I have been to some of those op-shops, but so far without success.  I
will keep trying.

I can picture you dancing around to that ditty with a happy face.  I
think that red wine is better at putting "a rose in every cheek".
Vegemite does, in fact, improve some dishes, like:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Meat lasagne with mozzarella
 Categories: Italian, Pasta, Meats, Beef
      Yield: 5 Servings
 
    250 g  Packet instant lasagna
    200 g  Mozzarella cheese, sliced or
           - grated
      1 tb Butter
      1    Onion, medium
      2 cl Garlic, crushed
      1    Celery stick, finely chopped
    800 g  Can tomatoes, chopped
      2 ts Mixed herbs
      1 ts Oregano and/or basil
    500 g  Minced steak
      3 tb Dry white or red wine
      1 ts Sugar
      1 ts Coarse black pepper
    140 g  Tomato paste
      1 tb Vegemite
      1 c  Water
 
  Meat sauce: In butter, fry onions, garlic and celery until starting to
  brown. Keeping liquid, drain tomatoes and chop. Add tomatoes to pan,
  cook on high for 5 minutes.  Mix in herbs. Add meat and cook until
  brown. Add wine, cook for a further 1 minute. Mix in sugar, tomato
  paste, Vegemite, and season with salt and pepper. Add water and
  simmer for 20 minutes.
  
  Assembly: Preheat oven to 200 C. Pour 1/4 meat sauce into base of
  lightly greased baking dish. Alternate layers of lasagna, meat sauce
  and cheese slices, finishing with cheese. Gently pour the reserved
  tomato liquid over the top and down sides of lasagna, until liquid
  level reaches top pasta layer.  (If liquid insufficient, use water).
  Bake at 200 C for 30 minutes, lower heat to 150 C and bake for a
  further 10 - 15 minutes, testing with skewer or fork. Let stand for 5
  minutes before serving.
