Hello, Dave.

I've preferred Ford vans since I have a lot of experience driving one. I
learned to drive in, and even took my driver's license driving test in, a 1987
Ford E-150 van that my dad turned into a rolling locksmith shop. AFAIK, the
van is still going somewhere in Oregon as he sold it years ago. But it was
pretty darn solid and while it was never meant to "go fast" it was reliable. If
I found an older Ford E van at a good price, I'd get it just to have something
better on gas than my pickup.

I'm seriously considering having the engine and transmission rebuilt in my
pickup simply because it's sat so much of its life that some of the gaskets are
showing their age. That might be a year or two down the road but it's
something I'm thinking about. The truck itself, while suffering from body
cancer, is still very solid. Besides, it's not every day that I get to drive a
truck with 12" wide back tires on it. :)

The only reason that Civic died was that the mechanic that my mother-in-law,
when she owned it, took it to did a lousy, "bare minimum" job on everything.
When it died, I was in the middle of moving back to Tennessee for a second time
and already had two vehicles to worry about to drive back up to Johnson City.
We sold the Civic for $900 and we -still- wish we could have fixed it and kept
it.

I had an '88 Accord also with 255,000 miles on it. Again, the head gasket
blew, we were moving back to Tennessee, so I just gave it away. Wish I'd kept
it: it was a 2-door coupe with the rolling headlights, 5-speed, and pretty darn
quick for its age.

A sysop and his money are soon parted. :)

Since it's 40 F outside (and that's the high for today):

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Peggy's Corn Chowder
 Categories: Soups, Ceideburg, Bacon
      Yield: 1 Servings

    1/2 lb Bacon, diced
      1 md Onion, chopped
    1/2 c Celery, chopped
      2 tb Flour
      4 c Milk
     16 oz Can creamed corn
1 cn Potatoes [Or use cooked,
           -chopped potatoes to taste
           -S.C.]
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/8 ts Pepper
           Parsley
           Paprika

Here's one I got from a friend many years ago... I haven't tried it
for a long time, but it was excellent++good enough for me to get the
recipe and I wasn't even into cooking at the time.

Fry the bacon and save 3 tablespoons of the drippings. Fry onion and
celery in the drippings until tender. Blend in flour, stirring until
bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in milk. Heat to boiling point,
stirring constantly. Boil and stir for one minute. Stir in remaining
  ingredients.

If you feel really racy, dump in a drained can of clams.
