====================================================================
Howdy Ruth!

-> -> It will start out well. If you saw my note to Dale yesterday about my
-> -> FIL, good news. He's out of the hospital with a diagnosis of
-> -> diverticulosis and a flare up of colitis. He's on a bland and soft
diet
-> -> for a bit, will have to modify some eating choices for longer but all
in
-> -> all, glad to be home.
->
-> HN> Glad to hear he's ok...I had an acute
-> HN> attack of kidney stones..not sure how
-> HN> many but it lasted a week and I was
-> HN> pretty much out of it for most of the
->
-> OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My sympathies, good to hear you're
-> doing better.
->
Chirpy as a bird at this point! (grin)
->
-> HN> time. Did not manage to do much more
-> HN> than moan and hurt..Did manage to stay
-> HN> out of the ER and hospital so did not
-> HN> have to deal with telling them NO to
->  HN> morphine this time.
->
-> A good thing then. Just rest and lots & lots of liquids to take care of
-> it? ERs are not fun; my FIL checked in at 8:42 pm and finally got a bed
-> around 5 am the next morning. They'd decided to admit him around 0030,
-> knew what ward even, but had to wait that long for a bed. After he was
-> discharged, Mom dropped a perscription for him off at a big box store,
-> was told it might be ready in an hour. About 4 hours later, after some
-> "hard talking", Steve was able to pick it up.
->
Which was one of the primary reasons I wanted
to stay away from the ER and the hospital. Not
much you can DO for a kidney stone unless it's
so large or dangerous that you have to go in
after it. If you go to ER they'll pump you
full of morphine and put you in a corner until
it's "over". Not much sense in doing that as
far as I'm concerned, rather stay home and
drink lots of water and do your best to
endure it.

-> HN> My wife's aunt likes the golf cart a
-> HN> lot better than she does her car!
->
-> It's good for getting around in the park. My sister in AZ lives near Sun
-> City West where carts are allowed on public streets--she does not care
-> for that and lets us know her opinion. She may be in that situation
-> herself some day tho.
->
My wife's aunt seldom leaves her "complex" so seldom
needs the car for other than trips outside the
area. The retirement community she is in has
several small busses that take folks on outings
and even to Doctor's appointments and such.

-> -> HN> to Sacramento with more "stuff".
-> -> HN> This time she's going to also stop
-> -> HN> and pick up some Toilet paper and
-> ->  HN> paper towels (grin)...live and learn!!
->
-> -> All the little things that make a house (or apartment) home. It seems
-> -> everywhere we move to, we add little touches here & there to make the
-> -> place more "ours". Eventually we may have a place we can permanently
-> -> call "ours", even tho the bank or credit union will own the larger
chunk
-> -> of it.
->
-> HN> That's the usual way it goes.
->
-> We took over payments on a double wide mobile home once; that was the
-> closest to home ownership we've ever been. Sold it before Steve went
-> into the Army. It had a good sized kitchen, probably about comparable to
-> the one in the house here. Used for laundry room, dining room, freezer
-> storage, etc besides cooking. Nice fridge/stove/sink layout tho not the
-> triangle that some designers say is idea. It also had a gas stove; don't
-> have that here but wish we did. (sigh!)
->
Next place perhaps.

-> ->  HN> Nope it's a single row of "townhouses" that
-> ->  HN> runs perpendicular to the street..so she
-> -> HN> has a long walkway to get to her door.
->
-> -> Sounds like she found a nice place tho she'll need a good umbrella on
-> -> wet days.
->
-> HN> Sacramento does not get a whole lot of
-> HN> rain, so that won't be the biggest
-> HN> concern in her life. Heat in the Summer
-> HN> will be a MUCH bigger factor!
->
-> Too far inland for the fog we got in Monterey/Pacific Grove when we
-> lived there while Steve was at DIL. We missed the heat of the summer
-> tho, not there long enough.
->
Oh she's gonna get plenty of the heat!!
Too far from SF and the coast for the
fogs but the Sacramento river does cause
some fogs of it's own...lots of rice grown
in that area so LOTS of water.
->
-> HN> The two of them are happy and that's
-> HN> as much as I can ask for at this point.
-> HN> She's grown and living her own life and
-> HN> I only give her my opinion WHEN she asks
-> HN> for it..and very little advice when I do.
->
-> Sounds like us & our girls. (G)
->
Yep, I figure we raised her to make
good decisions, and she's not let us
down yet...gotta trust that they know
what they are doing. And stand by em when
they ask for it.

-> -> HN> You spent most of your life not "in"
-> ->  HN> the academic world, so you'll be
-> ->  HN> returning to "normal life"...except
->
-> -> Transitioning yet further from the military life. We still miss it,
-> -> acutely at times, but it's not hard to say good bye to early morning
PT
-> -> & formation. In some ways, it was more predictable than the academic
-> -> world that changes every semester.
->
-> HN> If the military has one thing down
->  HN> pat, it's routines.
->
-> With a few exceptions, yes, definatly.
->
chat with you soon!
