Hebrew National beef bologna - okay only. Not nearly so
garlicky as I recall it having been, and the pepper and
spices were pretty fugitive. The flavor in general wimpier
than I had hoped or recalled. Slightly sour. The texture
was neither like the fairly firm, robust stuff that I
loved the last time I had this, decades ago, nor like the
flabby mess that most bologna has become - there was a
slightly fibrous quality that I don't know if I liked.
The ingredients list included hydrolized soy protein. C+

Food Should Taste Good all natural tortilla chips/Multigrain/
tortilla chips (it's a cracker, too![tm]) made with flax,
sunflower, and sesame seeds quinoa, soy, brown rice - rather
like regular tortilla chips but with a toasted taste. Indistinct
cereallish aroma. The texture required a little more chewing than
ordinary tortilla chips; this brought out a touch of sweetness
and that "brown" taste that cries out multigrain. C

Food Should Taste Good all natural tortilla chips/Sweet Potato/
tortilla chips (it's a cracker, too![tm]) made with sweet potato
- a nice sweet-potatoey color and the shape of the chips (potato
slice shape, rather like Tato Skins) encouraged, but the cardboard
aroma did not. Flavor distressingly corny with not much sweet
potato presence - not too surprising as the third ingredient is
sweet potato, behind corn and high oleic sunflower or safflower oil.
Oddly, the sweet potato flavor came out nicely against some salsa;
the multigrain version totally caved in to the tomato and spice. C

Orville Redenbacher butter flavor microwave popcorn - this starts
out with an almost fecal smell, after 2 1/2 minutes' popping
becomes reasonably tender and tasty with relatively few old maids;
rather salty and with bites with that butyric intensity. A tiny
bit of scorch actually improved the taste. C-

Smartfood white cheddar cheese popcorn - rather mild flavor. The
ingredients are pleasantly limited: popcorn, oil, cheddar cheese,
whey, buttermilk, salt. Unfortunately, despite the bag being
well within date, the product was slightly stale. B+

Seapoint Farms dry roasted edamame - very small; sort of like
your usual soy nuts but fresher; crisp rather than brittle;
not oversalted. Pretty good. A-

Two bittersweets from Pralus Chocolatier -
Colombie - "powerful nose, good aromatic balance, coffee, buttered
milk caramel, slightly astringent aftertaste" was the party line.
I found it to have no nose, even on warming, a little brown sugar
taste, a little more sour than the next. B-

Tanzanie - this was a pleasant, hard melting, fairly neutral
chocolate, maybe a little more aromatic than the above, but I
could eat this all day ... and forget I'd had it. B
