====================
Hi Ruth,

-> RH> Cheap sewing patterns are a good thing. I got a bunch of 80s ones

-> Free is even better as fast as kids grow. I'll probably hang on to
-> unisex (and some girl baby) ones for a while longer but pass others on
-> to a church friend who both has a little girl and sews.

 RH> Better still, kids' clothes don't change as fast as adult ones. Stuff
 RH> that was cute 25 years ago still is.

Yes, I should have kept the ones I used with Rachel & Deborah but.....
Talked with Rachel via Skype for a few minutes tonight & showed her the
jumper & jeans jacket for Sarah--she loved them!

-> Ugly is in the eyes of the beholder. A button down shirt is always a
-> good pattern to have on hand, same with a basic tee shirt one. Things
-> that require huge shoulder pads are recycle bag fodder.

 RH> Exactly. I have a really cool shirt here that was made in the early
 RH> 80s, but of course I got it later. No shoulder pads at all. It's a
 RH> style that's come back around. Those mid to late 80s maternity

I'm redoing a skirt that I made in the early 80s; it was a wrap around,
not any longer. I also restyle the collars on a lot of the basic shirt
patterns I have from that era.

-> RH> Thankfully. I must be the only person who doesn't like butter on
->  RH> sweet potatoes.

-> Steve likes butter on his but he likes to control the amount of it, and
-> cinnamon sugar. So, if you don't like butter, what do you put on your
-> sweet potatoes? I put nothing on mine--Steve gets my sweets and I get
-> his Irish if we have both in the house.

 RH> Either just salt or gravy if I'm eating them with such. Usually just
 RH> the salt. They're moist enough not to need much else. Japanese sweet
 RH> potatoes get more, but not much.

Never associated sweet potatoes with gravy but if you like them that
way, it's fine with me. Wonder what Steve would think about trying them
that way.

->  RH> Savannah has a tradition of having a decent-sized Jewish
 RH> population.

-> From almost the founding of the city as I recall.

 RH> Pretty much. No clue what's left there now.

Several good sized congregations as I understand. One has a food
festival every year called Shalom Y'all. We never went; too much else
going on that conflicted but it sounded like fun.

-> RH> We have big population here too.

-> I know there's at least one synagogue in Raleigh--right near a couple of
-> Protestant (Lutheran and I think, Baptist) churches.

 RH> We used to have three in town here. One's gone and one's headed
 RH> downhill, but the town is now about 20,000 people. That's twice what
 RH> was here when those buildings went up.

-> RH> Good idea. Start with a control group and see what flies.

-> Yes, but I don't think I'll try curry with the group. Some might like it
-> but overall, I don't think it would be successful. Some people just
-> don't know good food. (G)

 RH> Or got an overdose like my mother did and can't stand the smell of
 RH> turmeric any more.

I don't know what turned my dad off but my mom said she made curried
eggs when they were newly weds. She said it was Dad's turn to have
morning sickness. I found a fairly new container of chili powder in her
cabinet last time we were up so it came home with me. I think she needed
a pinch for her chili sauce she'd made the year before and didn't open
it after that so it was quite fresh still. I doubt she'll make chili
sauce again but she will need to buy fresh curry powder when she does.
(G) Maybe I should do that with some more of her spices?

---
Catch you later,
Ruth
