It seems that the English, Indians and now Australians are equally
keen to compete for bragging rights.

I was told a similar story by a marketing prof back in college.
He declared that when cake mixes were first sold in Canada they
merely required adding water and sold well everywhere but in Quebec.
After some research the companies formulated a version for Quebec
that required milk and an egg, which was successful. The moral was
know your demographics. The French were more conservative and
traditional, and women there are more concerned about (perceived)
nutrition for their families and less concerned with convenience and
saving time.

Another pithy little quote of his: "The railways thought they were in
the train business when they were really in the transportation
business." Which is why they were blindsided first by highways,
trucking and automobiles and then by airplanes. 30 years later a lot
of businesses got killed by the internet because their business
development and marketing geniuses missed that lecture. e.g. book
stores, video rental stores and newspapers.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Best Banana Fritters
 Categories: Fruit, Fritters
      Yield: 8 Servings

      1 c  Sifted all-purpose flour
      1 tb Sugar
    1/2 ts Salt
      2    Eggs
    1/2 c  Milk
      2 tb Vegetable oil
      6 md Firm ripe bananas
    Oil for frying
    Confectioners sugar

  Into a small bowl sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. In
  another small bowl, beat eggs, milk and oil together with a rotary
  beater or whisk. Combine liquid ingredients with dry ingredients;
  stir until all flour is moistened. Slice bananas in half lengthwise;
  dip into batter using fingers. Drain any excess batter. Drop bananas
  into at least 2 inches hot oil (375 degrees F. on deep frying
  thermometer) in a deep skillet or deep-fat fryer. Fry a few at a
  time, turning once, 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on
  paper towels. Serve immediately, sprinkled with confectioners sugar

  YIELD: 4 cups or 6 to 8 servings.
