I have no idea why Mexicans don't view Yellowknife as a nice place
to come to. It can't be the climate; people from other warm
countries settle here. Years ago Roslind and I attended an Hispanic
New Year's Eve party. There were couples there from Portugal, Brazil
and Macao, from Spain, Argentina, Columbia and Peru, as well as
dozens from the Philippines but not Mexico. It was the only country
missing.

I just Googled for info on an old Ottawa institution to find out it
too is gone. I took my girlfriend of the time there for her college
graduation dinner in the 70's. When she was single, my mom's dates
took her there to impress her during WWII.

     Title: (AC) Nfld Veal Pot Pie With Dumplings
Categories: Historical, Heirloom, Canadian
  Servings: 4

      2 lb shoulder of veal
      1    onion,
      1 ts salt
      1 ds peeper
    1/2 ts Worcester Sauce
      2 c  diced potatoes
    1/4 c  Tomato Ketchup
      3 TB flour
    1/2 c  cold water
           Dumplings

In a saucepan containing 1-1/2 quarts of boiling water, place veal
and onion, let simmer for one hour or more. Add salt, pepper and
Worcester Sauce. Add potatoes and cook until they are nearly
done.Add Ketchup. Thicken, using flour blended with water. Place
dumplings on top of the meat, cover closely and steam for 12
minutes. Be sure the dumplings rest on the meat and cannot sink into
the liquid, as this is what causes them to be heavy. If a sauce is
desired part of the liquid may be removed before putting dumplings
into pot.
