It depends on what sort of consumption instrumentation the food is
designed for.  Food prepared in bite-sized pieces is easiest handled
with chopsticks, while soupy things ask for spoons in most cultures.
Chopsticks do have an advantage in extending your reach if you wish to
steal small, tasty items from someone else's plate, while saying,
"Hey, look at that!" while pointing elsewhere with your free hand.

On occasions I have been to Vietnamese or Chinese restaurants with my
Filipino-born stepsons, and the waiter has given them chopsticks, and
me a spoon and fork.  Then we swap, to the puzzlement of the waiter.
One of my daughters is good with chopsticks, but she used to work in a
Japanese restaurant.  Even her Indian husband can handle them well,
although he prefers fingers, claiming that food tastes better if you
can feel it as well as tasting it.  Having on occasions, when in such
company, eaten that way, I tend to agree with him.

Today I have returned from Alice Springs, in the "Red Centre" of
Australia, where there was a Baptism of my latest grandson.  The above
Indian son-in-law was sitting outside one evening working on his MBA,
doing an online examination using a computer with a touch screen.
That was a mistake, as from time to time tropical flying insects,
attracted by the illumination, would hit the screen, giving the wrong
answers to the questions!  A hazard apparently not thought of by the
designers of that bit of technology.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: (AFA) Tropical Trifle
 Categories: Hawaiian
      Yield: 8 Servings
 
      3    Eggs
  1 1/4 c  Milk
    1/4 c  Sugar
      1 ts Vanilla extract
      3 oz Pkg. ladyfingers or
     12    Ladyfingers, split
      3 T  Light rum or pineapple
           Juice
      2    Ripe mangoes, peeled, seeded
           And cubed
      2 c  Cubed fresh pineapple
      1 c  Whipping cream
      2 T  Sugar
    1/2 ts Vanilla extract
      2 T  Coconut, toasted
 
  For custard, in a heavy medium saucepan lightly beat eggs just until
  mixed. Stir in milk and the 1/4-cup sugar. Cook and stir over medium
  heat until mixture just coats a metal spoon, about 7 minutes. Remove
  from heat; stir in the 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Pour custard into
  a bowl. Cover surface with plastic wrap. Let stand 30 minutes or
  until cool.Tear ladyfingers into 1-inch pieces. In a 2-quart clear
  glass serving bowl arrange half of the ladyfingers. Sprinkle with
  half of the rum or pineapple juice. Top with half of the mangoes and
  half of the pineapple. Pour half of the custard over the fruit.
  Repeat layers. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 4 to 6
  hours.Just before serving, in a chilled small mixing bowl combine
  whipping cream, the 2 tablespoons sugar, and the 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks
  form. Pipe or spread whipped cream over trifle. Sprinkle with coconut.
