Plus, the desire to make as much as possible with the least expenditure
figures in too. The current infrastructure rules out ethanol as a
practical alternative fuel.  It can't be pumped through pipelines, and
must be transported via truck or train car due to its corrosiveness.
What also seems to be promising is the use of algae as a source of
biomass for fuel.

Actually, the implication was that if it takes such a short time to
convert from biomass to fuel, then we needn't assume that it took an
extremely long time for the "fossil" fuels to form.

I remember reading about that VW Rabbit trip.  IIRC, the one remark was
that the exhaust smelled like a deep fryer.  I know that would be a lot
more pleasant than the current diesel exhaust from some of the trucks I
have been behind which were overdue for some maintenance work and were
spewing clouds of black smoke as they lumbered down the highway.

We used to subscribe to Mother Earth News, and have had a desire to live
responsibly (but not worshipping nature like some of the extreme
environmentalists seem to do). We got some good ideas from them and
from Organic Gardening and Farming years ago that we still use today
(such as milling our own flour and dehydrating food). I still grab the
"Stocking Up" (1977 edition) book for use. I had to repair it since the
glue binding had deteriorated too badly for all but occasional use.  I
used Liquid Fusion Clear Urethane Glue to repair the binding, and it
seems to be holding up well now. Time will tell though. I had read that
the urethane glues were good for glue binding as they do not become
brittle with age.


MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.04

      Title: Rindergulasch (Beef Goulash)
 Categories: Ethnic, Meats, Main dish
      Yield: 4 servings

      3 tb Vegetable Oil
      1 lb Round Steak; Cubed
      3    Onions; Medium, Chopped
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/4 ts Pepper
    1/2 ts Garlic Salt
      1 ts Paprika
    1/4 ts Sugar
      2 c  Water; Hot
      1 tb Unbleached Flour
    1/4 c  Water; Cold
    1/2 c  Cream; Heavy

  Heat vegetable oil in a large fry pan or Dutch oven.  Add meat cubes
  and brown well, approximately 10 minutes.  Stir in onions; cook until
  soft. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic salt, paprika, and sugar.
  Blend thoroughly.  Pour in hot water; cover and simmer gently about 1
  1/2 hours.
   In a small jar or container, shake or blend flour with cold water.
  Be sure to break up all lumps.  Add to meat about 7 minutes before
  the end of the cooking time.  Stir constantly until sauce is
  thickened and bubbling. Remove from heat; stir in cream.  Serve with
  noodles, accompanied by a tomato salad if desired. From: Dean Solomon
