Hi Michael,

>> If one could only find sustenance for people that wouldn't support

Eeky but so true.

What really really sickens me now is finding out the treatment my sis is going
for ... in Mexico.. it's probably the same type Steve Mcqeen, the actor, had
(geez). I can understand it somewhat - there is no known treatment that works
for the type cancer she has. Her daughters and friends in Hollywood are
raising funds for this treatment. Very worrisome in any case but moreso
because of what I read about the treatment. So I'm just hoping for a miracle.

>> that her doc in LA wanted to 'starve the tumor cells' with his vit. C

This treatment is given intravenously, but there's no proven benefit there
either. The overall treatment in Mexico also uses another drug not proven to
help, Laetrile - also given intravenously... that one is not as scary as some
of the other treatment options she'll be getting. All one can hope for is that
the placebo effect will provide some benefits..if the cyanide from the Laetrile
doesn't get her first.. geez.

She must be a beautiful cat - I took a look at the breed since I wasn't
familiar with it.. Very nice markings. The places I checked didn't say much
about the personality of the breed though.

> Birman is quite a different breed from Burmese.

Another breed I wasn't familiar with.. very beautiful kitty..

>I have got only
> a few scratches from Birmans, but have received over the years

hahahahahaha.. I'm laughing because I _do_ remember that Burmese peeing in my
shoes .. I thought maybe if I moved the cat into my own room instead of the
'empty room' where she had been kept, she'd be more appreciative... And
that's what I got. When she bit me as I was putting down her food dish, I
should have known it was a lost cause :)

> Must have had a bit of a scare during his taste of where

Yes - And while I thought he'd have been a good hunter by the length of his
body, legs and his overly large feet, it didn't seem so given how terribly
skinny he looked when we got him home. That fits with our experience of which
cats would always bring home 'gifts' for us.. like snakes, birds and mice.. it
was the females here (Lola and LuLu) who did that.

>> Some cholesterol drugs can cause leg cramps as well..

> And worse. I was on one of the early ones, Mevacor, and

Swell.. just what you need.. :(

Wow guess so.. just read up on that one.. that could have been really
dangerous.

>I then went
> through the whole list of statins, and the ones that worked

Very glad to hear that.. I've always avoided the statins when suggested to me
since I'm very hesitant to take anything thatt even has the potential to cause
leg cramps, or anything leg-related (g). Instead I watch my diet (somewhat)
and take Niacin and fish oil.. numbers are ok according to the Doc.

>>> ====Orange and Onion Salad========
>> Turnips, are you sure?
>> Sure.. tangy carrot-ish flavor.. with onions to balance .. well
>> something like that.. :)

> Well, I'd be likely to turnip my nose at that.

ouch :) Better than turnip away completely..

==Seared Steak and Rice Noodle Salad==

Dinner tonight :)

Ingredients:
1 lb. sirloin steak
1 onion
6 oz. fresh sugar snap peas
6 oz. baby bella mushrooms
1 cucumber
1 pound flat rice noodles

Dressing:
2 Tablespoons rice wine vinegar
2 Tablespoons oyster sauce
3 Tablespoons lemon juice
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
1 Tablespoon chili paste
3-4 Tablespoons olive oil
1 Tablespoon chives

Mix the dressing and set aside.

Pan sear the steak over med-high heat for about 5 minutes on each side or less
if you like it more rare. Set the steak aside for about 10 minutes to let the
juices set.

Boil water in a large pot and cook the rice noodles for 2 minutes, then shut
off the stove, cover the pot and let sit covered for 15 minutes or so.

Slice the onion, cucumber and mushrooms in thin slices and place in a large
salad bowl. Clean the sugar snap peas and add them to the bowl.

On a cutting board, slice the steak into thin slices, then cut the slices in in
2" pieces if they are very long.

Drain the rice noodles and rinse in cold water, and add them to the bowl. Toss
in the steak. Add the dressing and toss well.

No turnips :)
==

Take care,
Janis
