Has that 3 million litres of maple syrup, stolen in Quebec, been found
yet?  I wonder about the logistics of food stealing; how is it
disposed of profitably?  That is a lot - 3000 tonnes.  A while ago a
large crop of cucumbers was stolen here from glass-houses.  I don't
know how that was sold.

I quite like maple syrup, on pancakes.

farmers, risk losing government subsidies.

Here is something that might tempt young Jim's taste buds.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Maple Rutabaga with Cranberries
 Categories: Side dish, Christmas
      Yield: 12 Servings
 
      4 lb Rutabagas
    2/3 c  Maple syrup
    1/4 c  Butter
    1/4 ts Each salt and pepper
    1/2 c  Dried cranberries, coarsely
           -chopped

MMMMM--------------------------TOPPING-------------------------------
      1 c  Fresh bread crumbs
      3 tb Butter, melted
      2 tb Chopped fresh parsley
 
  Peel rutabagas cut into cubes.  In large saucepan of boiling salted
  water, cover and cook rutabagas for 30 to 40 minutes or until tender.
  Drain and return to pot.  With potato masher, mash with maple syrup,
  butter, salt and pepper.  Stir in cranberries.  Spread in 11x7 inch
  baking dish. (Make-ahead: Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours;
  add 15 minutes to baking time.)
  
  Bake, covered, in 400øF oven for 30 minutes or until hot.  (Or
  microwave at Medium-High 70% for 10 minutes.)
  
  TOPPING:  Combine bread crumbs, butter and parsley; sprinkle over top.
  Broil for about 2 minutes or until golden.  Makes 12 servings.  Typed
