Ärende: Weg's was: Another Ithaca
=================================
Hi Nancy,

>>> Neat :) I'm not thrilled with the Wegman's in Ithaca.. they have
>>> things like the non-gluten foods all over the store instead of putting
>>> them in one place like the Binghamton Wegman's does.. I guess that's
>>> because it is a smaller store in Ithaca that in Binghamton... they
>>> probably don't sell as much in Ithaca.

>> Probably too much competition from the "health food" stores.

>> Could be.. then again, Wegman's in Binghamton isn't that far away from
>> some parts of Ithaca, like where we are.

> I don't think that Wegmans would be thinking those two stores as being

Ok, that makes sense. I realized (well, my daughter had to mention this to me)
that as far as health food stores, well, there is a really big one and a
smaller satellite store (same company), named GreenStar Coop. It's fantastic..
so much MORE than a health food store. Fresh local Chicken, fresh local
vegetables and fruit, frozen beef and pork from local farms .. it's like
Wegman's on Vitamins Lol.. seriously, I was so impressed with how well the
grocery and other parts of the store were stocked, we took out a membership at
GreenStar ... Once you do that, you get a 'large' discount every time you
checkout. We filled a cart, bought the most silly things at a whim (Sheep
yogurt, NY Sharp cheese, cookies, macaroni, avocados, grapes, 3 bunches of
fresh beets, fresh basil, fresh spinach, raided the fresh meat and frozen meat
and more and more - too much to list, but the cart was overflowing even on the
bottom (g)), and the total only came to $300.00 after the discount. That
shopping cart at Wegman's probably would have hit the $500.00 mark..

So now we don't even think of going to Wegmans.. I'm addicted to Greenstar :)
:) I think if we work like 2 hours (either one of us), then we'll get another
10% off the total.. it's kind of insane..

> Given how far you were from the Binghamton store when you lived in
> Windsor, it might not be all that much farther from where you live
> now... maybe a bit farther, but that depends on what route you'd take, I
> guess (as I try to plot it out from my remembrance of the map I was
> diligently following for the last two trips... [g]).

It's a real drag of a ride to Windsor, mostly because once you get behind a
farm truck or really slow driver, you want to die since the passing zones are
few and far between :( As it is, we are still going back more than we'd like
just because we're working on getting the house ready to sell.. ah well..
eventually :)

>> We were in the upper 80's .. close to 90, but never hit that high.
>> It was really hot in the sun though.. I'm hoping we don't get the
>> "September-DROP" like I remember as a kid.. It never bothered me when

> From what I hear on our weather reports, this weekend is going to be
> similar to that already up here... but I'm sure that it is only
> temporary at this point.

Still pushing 85+ here.. yesterday it hit 87.. it's supposed to cool off to the
mid 70's next week.. but I noticed there are still days where they're calling
for 80's.. Yay :)

>> I was a child, but once the MS hit, it became "adjusting to new
>> temperatures" all over again when you hit seasonal changes :( Spring
>> used to be the worst for me.. not sure why that was.. :)

> Maybe cold to hot is harder to take...? If Spring is a gradual warming,
> it might not be so bad... but so often all of sudden it is WARM...

I think you're right about gradual being better... And my legs do better in
cold .. they don't "feel" better so much, but I walk better. High temperatures
are one of the triggers for symptoms in MS for a lot (but not all) people.. In
the Spring, all I can figure is, you've just had several months of bitter cold
in Winter..just gotten adjusted to it, and boom.. one day it hits 60 or 70.. I
guess compared to February and March's cold, when it warms up, it's like heat
wave to my botched internal thermometer :)

haha..Just remembering when I was first diagnosed.. in the "eek" old days (g),
they did have as many tests to determine if you had MS or some other
neurological disorder.. so one of the tests they did then was to plunk you in
really really hot (I mean REALLY hot) water and watch to see if eh.. 'funny
things' started to happen - really :)

At least I got to buy a new bathing suit haha.. Anyway, nothing happened during
the test.. but given the symptoms I had, the dx was made after ruling out the
things that mimic MS, like B12 deficiency, Lyme disease, Crohn's disease..
there are a few others.

Then later - I dunno, 10 years later? That's when I went to NYC to
NYHosp./Cornell Medical Center.. All symptoms had just _disappeared_ for maybe
10 years or so, then came back rather viciously.. that's when I asked my dad to
find me a "real doctor" (bg).

:)

That's also about when I talked to another Doctor about not eating gluten
because there was this idea that since Crohn's disease mimics MS, MS could be
made worse by gluten. I know I feel like crap when I eat too much of it too
many days in a row..

===Almond Flour Bread===

2 1/2 cups blanched almond flour
1/2 teaspoon celtic sea salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 eggs
1 tablespoon agave nectar
1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

In a large bowl, combine almond flour, salt and baking soda In a medium bowl,
whisk the eggs, then add agave and vinegar Stir wet ingredients into dry
Scoop batter into a well greased 6.5 x 4 inch baby loaf pan Bake at 300F for
45-55 minutes on bottom rack of oven; until a knife comes out clean. Cool and
serve

Makes 1 loaf (about 12 slices)
===

I use reg. or some very light brown sugar, because I don't think agave nectar
is such a great thing.. I might try a very light maple syrup some day..

Take care,
Janis
