Your seafood truck experience brought comparisons with

higher-quality supermarket offerings). The other day

Let's value the steaks at, oh, $15 a pound, be generous,
give them a 50% premium over supermarket, the other meats
at $8, the potatoes at $2 each. That makes the cake worth
$17 at sale prices, which is kind of silly. Let's do the
same with list price. The cake now becomes $119.

To be fair, they give away your reusable cooler and a
free! gift of a carving set and steak knives ... which
is why a few decades back there was a rash of reusable
coolers showing up in the dumps and carving sets and
steak knives being given away as Christmas gifts. I got
such a set once and am guilty of promptly regifting it
to some unlucky soul.

Factor in frying oil and energy costs, and the 90% apparent
profit becomes only maybe 75%. What's the point where avoiding
the stenching up of the house becomes worth it?

Better to spray the chips with an oil mister and bake them,
though I say so who shouldn't.

Camp Howdy Salsa
cat: Wyoming, Arkansas, sauce
servings: 12

2 cloves garlic, sliced
1/4 c water
28 oz can Hunt's whole tomatoes
1 to 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded & chopped
1 rounded ts Chugwater Chili Mix
Juice of 1 lime
Salt & pepper to taste
1/2 c fresh cilantro, chopped

Place garlic and water in blender. Pulse until garlic
is finely chopped.

Add next five ingredients and pulse (very important to
pulse and not have blender on continuously.) Continue
to pulse until well chopped. Add chopped cilantro. Mix
well. Pour in covered container, refrigerate until
cool. Serve with favorite chips.
