That's been true in Thai, Vietnamese and Korean places so I'd guess it's

I got some goat cheese the other day that was seriously bland.  The fake 
roast beast (a turkey substitute, I forget the name) was pretty good.  The 
texture still smacked of TVP, which it was, but the flavor was pretty close 
to roast turkey.

I may have had the kefir, but I don't remember it.  I usually drink tea, 
often green.
