Ärende: Whew!

Hi Folks        12/20/2012

My "Whew" is because Shirley tripped in the kitchen Friday.  A while later
in the evening we realized she had done a bad job on her left knee; even
tho' she felt little pain it was hugely swollen and horribly Black and Blue
a bit later.

I took her to Emergency and they X-rayed a pile.  No real decision, but the
Doctor figured that he saw a thin line in one oh the X-rays that meant she
might have a fracture in her kneecap. But he didn't think so.  

They wrapped her knee in a heavy temp locked brace and bundled us off home
with a promise of a diagnosis the next morning.  We'd get a call if the
kneecap was truly fractured.  Don't bend knee or walk much, use walker... 
hope that it would be no fracture so only 4 to 6 weeks of brace.  Go see
bone Doc Monday.  Next day [Saturday] no call.  

Monday we went to see the Bone guy at 8:00am and got a new brace and an
appointment the next day for an MRI.  Tuesday did the MRI, and back to the
Bone man the next day. [Wednesday]
 
Thank God, no fracture.  Even better, he dismissed the thought of 4 to 6
weeks in a cast or brace.  Just wear the brace and ace bandage, and use the
walker until she felt sure and then discard them one at a time.

Now Butch is a tough Lady, she stands pain that flattens me, never needed
any drug for tooth fillings, etc.   But she is also independent and Dutch. 
The thought of being cared for hand and foot by me for more than that short
time was an anathema to her. She was mentally down for that looong short
time.  Nary a whimper, but I knew. 

I thought it would turn out well and that the Doctors were just protecting
their ass, but she didn't.  It is such a pleasure, Today, to see her so
relieved and happy!

Life is grand, ain't it?
