I'm really looking forward to it, and I don't think a just
deity or even fate would deprive me. Could still be wrong
of course, but I'm not counting on that!

I think that Books of this sort are somewhat off-topic but 
also think that most Books of this sort point this out. I
marvel that many of the would-be prophets profess to adhere
to such a Book but are arrogant enough to contradict what
it says.

So the doomsayers are doing us a favor, as somebody is
expecting it all the time.

Indeed. Annie has complained for years that she couldn't travel
with Billy in the 4 1/2 years (! he was estimated to have between
2 weeks and a year when diagnosed) of his last illness; they
decided to cash in all his miles for stuff he could enjoy, so
half a million miles went on electronics and media equipment, and
now that he's gone and she can go away for more than a day, she
can't afford to. I wasn't in the mood to tell her that they had
frittered away all those miles on big-screen TVs and stuff that
were only a little better than what they already had (I did give
them this lecture before they did it in the first place, so I
fulfilled my requirement). So instead I razzed her about buying
canned beef gravy ($1+) instead of letting me make gravy from
scratch (10c or less and tasting better). Told her that was a
buck less in her travel fund.

I'm here past schedule, because of the snow, and we're housebound,
sort of (they did plow most of the foot of snow we've had), and
she asked me what our first quarrel would be about. I said, home
economics, and she said, what do you mean, and I replied, I'm for,
you're against. She does seem to enjoy the feeling of generosity,
plenty, and being able to buy whatever she likes; but then she
spent much of the afternoon pricing out my trip. Looks like list
price would be in the $25-30K range, but my cash outlay will be
in the range of 10% of that (plus a few years of saved up miles,
bringing my total down to a human level).

I try not to provoke persons with machine guns. I think the
most dangerous parts of the trip will be, in this order,
crossing the street in Singapore, Kathmandu, Bangkok, and
Jogjakarta; the Beechcraft that we will ride to Everest on on
January 14 (one of its fleetmates with occupants died a fiery
death a couple years ago); and the Kathmandu drinking water.

Though they are under the same umbrella and fall differently
in the hierarchy, there isn't a unitary scheme per se, as
the recipes and I believe actual distilling locations are
different. Both are somewhat premium brands (I am used to
$10-20 brands; premium run $20-50, say, and both of these
are in the lower part of this range; and then there are
the fancy ones that mere mortals can't afford.

Breakfast martini
cat: booze, airline
servings: 2

2 oz gin
3/4 oz Cointreau
3/4 oz lemon juice
2 Tb marmalade

Shake with ice. Strain through fine strainer into
chilled martini glasses. Garnish with orange twist.
