No, I was waiting for things to shake out. I was tempted by
the inaugural Denver to Tokyo, scheduled for next month on
the 787, but I've been on inaugural flights before, and
they're no big deal - I was on the first JFK-HKG, at that
time the longest commercial flight ever, and all I got was
this watch that didn't work and a bunch of chicken and
noodles in cream sauce that was extremely unsightly but
somehow managed to be better than anything I've had on a
plane before or since. Toward the end of the flight, I was
heading to the rest room and encountered a flight attendant
eagerly scarfing down a serving; I remarked that it was
better than it looked, and he agreed, saying that it was
the third one he'd scrounged (a lot of the pax were put off
by the appearance and refused the meal).

But I got the 747 and the 380 in first and two flavors of
the 777 in business, as well as 319 and 320 in business.
Regarding my loss, if I had been told up front that my
itinerary would cost 800 bucks more than I'd thought, I
would have done it anyway.

Card still okay last I checked, and the hotel says that
it's been sent by Emergency Mail back to Maryland. It
hasn't shown up yet, and I hope that if it's not back
here when I have to leave, my brother will have the sense
to accept it and keep it safe for me.

Safe is good. I am suffering the worst jetlag ever, though,
and I'm on a totally flipped schedule.

Chicken bott boi
cat: Penn Dutch, main, pasta
Serves: 6

10 c water 
3 lb chicken, cut into 8 pieces 
1 lg onion, chunked 1"
2 celery stalks, chunked 1/2"
1 Tb salt 
1/2 ts black pepper 
7 potatoes, peeled, halved
12 oz bow tie pasta 

Combine water, chicken, onion, celery, salt, and
pepper in a stockpot over medium-high heat and
bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low,
and cook 50 min.
 
Remove chicken to a platter, then add potatoes
to pot and cook 10 min.
 
Meanwhile, bone chicken, discarding bones and
skin and cut chicken into bite-sized pieces.
 
Add pasta to pot and cook 8 to 10 min, or until
pasta is tender. Return chicken to pot; continue
cooking until heated through. Serve in bowls.

M's note - this is very like what we had on
the plane, only we didn't get potatoes.

M's other note - don't discard the skin, render
the fat out for another use and eat the cracklings.
