You just haven't run into Turks from the same part of Turkey yet... ;)

It's the "make the most of the chance to learn a new culture" attitude
vs the "keep ourselves untouched"...  Knowing it was only for a limited
time, I'm sure I'd've been out into the local stores as much as I could,
maybe it would be different if I thought it was for keeps, and I'd lose
my American culture... but I suspect I'd still gladly assimilate...
mostly, anyway...  :)
