I am lucky, since I don't have a cellar, that my climate is such
that my home is almost always low humidity and rarely warmer than 72
F. I sometimes buy 10 pound bags rather than the little 3 pound bags
when they are on special as the extra 7 pounds cost as little as a
buck more. I do keep an eye on them and with the first sign of mold
on one of them, I discard it, peel the rest, wash them and store
them in a plastic bag, refrigerated. They will last an extra month
that way. If I have a lot, half of them get confitted in pork fat
and refrigerated.

It looks like our bout of cloudy but warm weather (-2 C yesterday,
-10 today) is coming to an end. Latest forecast for Thursday has an
arctic high moving in, clear skies but colder temps ... a high of
-23 and a low of -30. 

Next random recipe, recently downloaded... looks a bit like Tex-Mex salsa.

      2 lg red ripe tomatoes
    1/4    white onion
           garlic cloves
    1/2    green pepper 
      1    green chili 
      8    branches of cilantro
      1 ts salt 
           white, salted cheese

Put all of the ingredients in the blender (this is what I like most
about this dish; you just throw everything and blend!), but make
sure that you don't blend the mixture too much; it is not good to
have the final mixture too liquidy.

You can use this to dip in bread or sambusa, or to eat it with rice,
or whatever main dishes you have. It is used as a side dish or
appetizer, often served with bread.
