It was an amusing and rather sweet occasion but lasted
longer than expected owing to the AWOL of the best man,
the grandfather of the groom and a friend of Weller's -
turns out he had set his clocks the wrong way on daylight
confusion day and was happily going about his business two
hours off. Some of the members of the wedding entourage
were more inconvenienced than the guests, as their role
demanded that they be dressed relatively fashionably.
There was a blower heating the main room to near freezing,
which was helpful.

The ice castle was kind of neat but had suffered some
thoughtless destruction - quite a number of people had
peed on the outer walls and in the ice parking lot, causing
rather unfestive yellow stains here and there, plus some
genius had dropped a cup of coffee on an inner wall,
partially melting it.

The officiant had a number of memory lapses, explained by
his having recently had chemo for some particularly
horrible cancer, but everyone including himself met these
with good humor.

Afterward, we all repaired to the Explorer, the fanciest
hotel in town for the reception and dinner; the original
plan I think was for Jim and me to sneak a couple drinks
and then leave Roslind (pretty close friends with the
bride and her mom) to reap the benefits, but it turned
out to be a sit-down dinner in a private room. We couldn't
expect to be paid for, so Jim and I wondered what to do
about what promised to be a substantial bill. Turns out
that the best man footed the bill while this lady Rita,
who employs the bride (I think) and some of the guests,
paid for a couple bottles of wine on the other side of the
room and I paid a couple bottles on this side of the room.

We left as the younger set were beginning to get rowdy,
but there seemed to be something to entertain everybody.
