I, on the other hand, have yet to buy/get the first piece of pre-cooked "ready
to eat" bacon. Or find one of those "back of the pack" recipes that suits me if
followed as outlined on the box.

I can recommend the rice/vegetable steamer as one of the things to which I
devote a part of my severely limited counter space.

The main reason that I don't use it for thawing stuff is that it usually
partially cooks whatever it is by the time it gets it thawed ... and that
throws the rest of the recipe off where one expects it to go.

      Title: Cheese Gooey (Quesadillo Flameda)
 Categories: Five, Cheese, Microwave, Appetizers
      Yield: 8 Servings
 
    1/2    Bell pepper; chopped
    1/2 c  Onions; chopped
      4 oz Mushrooms; pieces
      1 tb Sherry
      8 oz Pepper Jack; shredded
 
  Chop bell pepper and slice mushrooms, then saute until
  limp; add mushrooms and sherry. Cook until all liquid is
  evaporated.
  
  Add Jack cheese and microwave about 2 minutes. Stir and
  zap 1 minute more. Serve with flour tortillas.
  
  Sylvia's comments: I didn't want to dirty a sautéing pan
  AND a microwave pan, so I just melted the cheese in the
  frying pan on low. Worked great.
