Often as good a reason as any, I suppose... ;)

Not too much of a mess if one uses ready made jam, is it...?

I never bothered with Archway oatmeal cookies, as that was one of the
homemade staples, both growing up (Daddy usually made them, although
after a while, we kids did too) and when on our own... in fact our first
Christmas married, when we had hardly any dosh for presents, we made a
large batch of oatmeal cookies to give away as presents to family far
and near...  :)  At Christmas-time, they were usually made with candied
fruit in addition to the usual raisins... and for special, with a red or
green candied cherry atop the cookie..  :)
