I'll have to check them out, once I get out from under the pile of
writing I have to do. It's noted tho. Too bad there's no such thing as
electronic post it notes--just a file of little thing that need to be
written down for a short term, then discarded.

It's something for Mom to do that doesn't take a lot of memory work.
For the most part she's not handling a knife either.

I'd say taste is lower down on the list of why they do it.  But, the
feeling of having foodstuffs put up for the winter is probably a good
guess as to why they do it.  Hanger on from when there weren't the
supermarkets of today.

I don't think Dad would hear any much better that way.  As is, the
volume is turned up quite high--enough to wake you out of a sound sleep.
During the time when everybody was gathered at the house from time to
time, my younger brothr turned the volume on the scanner down to almost
nothing.  We all appreciated it; they didn't notice until afterward when
he turned it up again. (G)

Good idea.  We encouraged Mom to carry the handset with her while Dad
was in the hospital or rehab but judging from the time it took her to
answer the phone, I know she didn't.  We just have cell phones so they
go from one end of the house to the other, but sometimes stay in a
nearby room instead of right with us.

Probably but Deborah told Steve a couple of weeks ago that she now
apreciates the somewhat stricter way she was raised.  It's helping her
now to deal with her boyfriend's children.

One story house with all appliances on the main (presuming there's a
basement) level.  Plenty of storage in/near the kitchen that's at a
reasonable (no major climbing) reach. Etc,etc, etc............

We do take the easy way out sometimes but have also gone back to some of
the DIY things we did before Steve went into the Army.  It's an ever
fluctuating mix.
