Understood; particularly when it has to be brought in by air.  I can
get fresh local vegetables the year round, although I see out of
season grapes from California offered at an exhorbitant $15/kg.  I
suppose some people buy them; not me!

What an inducement to teachers to work in Detroit!  What subjects do
they teach there - target shooting and care of your pistol?   Or for
the more defensively oriented, designing and sewing your high fashion
bullet-proof vest?

      Title: Gazpacho Shooters
 Categories: Starter, Soup, Fancy
      Yield: 12 servings
 
           1 Tb olive oil
    1/2 md Onion, chopped
      2    Garlic cloves, chopped
      2 lb Ripe tomatoes, diced
  1 1/2 c  Water
           2 Tb tomato paste
      2 ts Sugar or to taste
           S, p
           2 Tb fresh lemon juice
      1 ts Worcestershire
           Hot pepper sauce to taste
      1 sm Cucumber, diced
           Sour cream
           Dill for garnish
 
  Wilt onion and garlic in oil for about 5 min. Stir in tomatoes, water,
  tomato paste, sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat
  to low, and simmer 15 min.
  
  Blend smooth in blender or food processor in batches. Stir in lemon
  juice, Worcestershire, and pepper sauce. Cover and chill.
  
  To serve: spoon into small glasses. Top with cucumber and sour cream.
  Garnish with dill.
