A quiet day was had by all here. After shoveling the 6 (or more) inches of 1 to
2 inches of expected snow off my porch and steps, digging a path to the car ...
and cleaning the accumulated celestial dandruff from the windows, hood, roof
and trunk lid I slid my way across town to the gasoline station next to my work
place. The owner, who has become a friend, was opening at 6 ayem for the
regulars and providing free coffee, donuts, and shots of various "holiday
cheer". I took a cuppa and a donut but skipped the hooch. I did add a bottle of
Lee Bertagnolli's Cab-Sav to the festivities. (Those who attended the Y2K
picnic probably had a sampling of Lee's product). Then to the Star 66 Cafe for
breakfast of 10 oz Strip Sirloin, basted eggs, well done hashed brown potatoes
toast and a glass of 'mater juice. Star 66 was one of the few places open on
the holiday morning - except Denny's (and I haven't been that hungry in a
loooooooooong time). Even the McDuck's were dark. Usually the Sign of the Clown
operates until noon on Thanksgiving and Xmas - but, not this year. Then back
home to do up my Fido postings, make a couple of cheese balls to go to my
brother's for pre-dinner snacking and just generally wait until brother and
bride were back from my niece's place before slip-sliding from my place to
theirs for a holiday dinner.

The cheese balls were well-received ... even by the two pooches. Vicky made a
glazed ham, au gratin potatoes, Brussels sprouts, oyster dressing and fresh
baked biscuits for dinner ... enough for a harvest crew although there were
just three of us. No one had interest in the pumpkin-pecan pie for dessert. (I
gave Vicky a copy of the recipe I posted here some time back). I'd bet the pie
doesn't outlast the weekend though.  Bv)=

Back home by six o'clock and by eight the carb load from the tatties, sprouts
and two helping of oyster dressing had kicked in and it was nitey-night for the
big kid.

Today I will meet my usual Sunday breakfast companions at Cracker Barrel @ 8
ayem for desayunos and coffee. Then wander by my best friend's place to deliver
the Pandora Internet Radio I got for his holiday gift. I only did two presents
this year (besides the jug of wine to Jim) and I had already delivered the one
to my brother and his bride.

All-in-all it has been and hopefully will continue to be a quiet weekend. I
hope all got what they wanted (but, not necessarily what they deserved) out of
the season. Sorry 'bout the snow for y'all on the right coast. But, I had no
say in the matter. I was just glad to see it gone from my area.  Bv)=

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Wine & Cheese Ball
 Categories: Appetisers, Cheese, Wine, Nuts
      Yield: 16 servings

      1 lb Extra-sharp cheddar; grated
           - or crumbled, room temp
      8 oz Cream cheese; room temp
      4 oz Treasure Cave bleu cheese
           - crumbles, room temp
      2 tb Mayonnaise
      1 ts Colman's mustard powder
      1 ts Worcestershire sauce
    1/2 ts Salt
      2 oz Dry red wine
           +=OR=+
      2 oz Ruby Port wine
    1/2 c  Chopped nuts; pecans or
           - cashews or walnuts *
      1 c  Coarse chopped pecans or
           - English walnuts

  Cream the cheddar, bleu cheese, cream cheese, mayo, mustard,
  Worcestershire, and salt in a mixer bowl and beat at a low
  speed until well mixed.

  Using a spatula fold in the 1/2 cup of chopped nuts and
  the red wine. The nuts and wine should streak through the
  cheese. When the nuts and wine are combined into the
  cheese put the result onto a sheet of waxed paper and use
  your moistened hands to roll into two balls.

  Roll the balls in the coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans
  until well covered. Wrap in cling film and place in ice
  box until serving time.

  Serve with Ritz crackers or other snack crackers of your
  choice. ENJOY!

  Makes two nice-sized cheese balls.

  This recipe will use up an entire 16 oz box (4 tubes) of
  Ritz crackers.
