It is not something that appeals to everyone, but I love it.  It
exemplifies the Portuguese pessimistic attitude. "Fado" = "Fate",
which to the singers is always sad.  The best singers can reduce their
whole audience, and themselves, to tears with a song.  Then everyone
goes home happy that they have been so miserable.

Thanks.  I'll give it a try.

Have you heard of the floods in Queensland?  At present they cover an
area greater than all of France and Germany combined.  I have a friend
who is marooned in her house on a hill in Rockhampton, with nothing to
do except phone me and drink her supplies of chardonnay.  Here in
South Australia, with temperatures of over 39C (102F) following a
record wet winter we are on "Catastrophic" bushfire alert.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Basil Chardonnay Sauce
 Categories: Sauce
      Yield: 4 servings
 
    1/2 c  Chardonnay
      1 ts Minced shallot
      3    Clpves minced garlic
      1    Bay leaf
      4 c  Heavy cream
    1/2 c  Chopped fresh basil leaves
           Salt and freshly ground
           Black pepper
           1 Tb cold unsalted butter
 
  Combine chardonnay, shallot, garlic and bay leaf. Boil on medium until
  reduced by half. Add the cream, and continue to reduce until mixture
  is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Remove pan from heat,
  discard bay leaf, and let cool.
  
  Transfer mixture to a blender, and add fresh basil. Puree until
  smooth. Season. Return sauce to pan, and place over low heat. Add
  butter, stir until melted, and remove from heat. Serve warm.
