This wasn't the tobacco mosaic virus - this was the same spore borne malady
that cause the Irish potato famine which started this thread. The culprit is an
aggressive and highly contagious fungus called Late Blight. Its microscopic
spores can travel with the wind, up to 40 miles, attacking tomatoes and
potatoes in their path.

Amazing what the easily gulled will believe. It's how witch burnings and lynch

      Title: Amazon Bars
 Categories: Cookies, Chocolate, Desserts, Snacks, Nuts
      Yield: 1 servings
 
    3/4 c  Golden Crisco shortening
  1 1/4 c  Firmly-packed brown sugar
      2 tb Milk
      1 tb Vanilla
      1    Egg
  1 3/4 c  All-purpose flour
      1 ts Salt
    3/4 ts Baking soda
      1 c  Semi-sweet chocolate chips
      1 c  Coarsely chopped pecans
 
  Preheat oven to 375øF/190øC. Grease a 9" X 13" (23cm X
  33cm) pan with shortening. Place foil on countertop
  for cooling cookies.

  Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in
  large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until
  well blended. Beat egg into creamed mixture.

  Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into creamed
  mixture just until blended. Stir in chocolate chips and
  pecans.

  Spread into prepared pan using long metal spatula.

  Bake at 375øF/190øC for 20 minutes. Reduce oven
  temperature to 325øF/163øC. Bake for an 5 additional
  minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE.

  Cool 2 minutes in pan. Cut into 16 bars.
