========================
Hey Ruth!
->
-> -> hn> I had "Steak Ranchero" which is carne asada
-> ->  hn> with tomatoes, onions, and jalepeno's sauteed
-> ->  hn> hottest jalepeno's I've ever had!! About on a
-> -> hn> par with thai birdseye peppers! Nearly took the
-> -> hn> top of my head off!! My eyes watered, nose ran,
->
-> -> Those were some hot jalepenos! Sounds like they were as hot as the
one
-> -> bird's eye Thai pepper that Steve had a couple of years ago. He took it
-> -> from Gail's Kung Pau Chicken at the pre picnic outing at the gathering
-> -> at Janis's a couple of years ago. It took his breath away briefly and
-> -> he turned as red as the pepper itself. He didn't report any negative
->
-> hn> Oh boy were they hot!! Whoosh! I turned beet red
-> hn> as well, but finished the dish sans the jalepeno's
->
-> And Annie sat there, enjoying the show. (G) Is Amanda a pepper eater
-> like her dad or a pepper wimp like her mom?
->
Annie quite enjoyed the show I think! Amanda
is not as much of a chile head as I am but she's
way more of one than Anne is! While I'll order
many dishes as spicy as I can get em, she'll
usually ask for "medium". Anne won't even
use black pepper!!

-> hn> A day or so later we were in Petaluma and ate
-> hn> at Thai Issan, a place we had our eyes on for
-> hn> several visits...I had panang curry and had
-> hn> it very spicy...and the peppers in the curry
-> hn> were not as hot as those jalepenos!! Good curry
->
-> Just goes to show you can't judge a pepper by its skin & color. Could
-> be another time, the jalapenos would be mild and the curry peppers
-> hotter than all get out.
->
I'd like to try that steak ranchero again...but
with normal jalepenos!

-> -> hn> back problems, and my wonky knee we have
-> -> hn> not been as active as our usual visits. We
->
-> -> So what was the result of your visit to the doctor on the 13th? Going
-> -> to finish out the season or retire early like Lou Piniella did
-> -> yesterday?
->
->  hn> Dr's visit on the 13th reconfirmed the
-> hn> quandry that seems to be my knee. The
-> hn> Nuclear Bone Scan showed both knees,
-> hn> the right (good) knee looked "normal"
-> hn> the left (wonky) knee looked like Chernobyl!
-> hn> Glowing brightly with all the increased
-> hn> blood flow and nothing visible that could
-> hn> cause it...so we did another MRI of the
-> hn> knee and I have another appointment
-> hn> with the Dr on the 7th of Sept. Who
-> hn> knows what we'll find this time?
->
-> Sounds like exploratory surgery may be in your future. Every so oftem
-> my knee likes to give out on me but not as often as I'd think, for the
-> use it gets. The left wrist/elbow are my biggest source of joint pain
-> problems most of the time. Being left handed, seems that I'm using the
-> wrist & elbow quite frequently. (G)
->
They'll have a tough time convincing me
that cutting in again is warranted unless
they can give me a good solid reason for
what they expect to find. Just "going in
and having a look around" is not enough
justification for me to agree to surgery.
If they have a good idea of what the
problem is, and what they can do to
"fix" it, I'll listen.

-> -> hn> still have plans of visiting Geyserville on
-> -> hn> monday and also the petrified forest there
->
-> -> So did you keep those plans or start heading back north so Annie could
-> -> start getting ready for the new school year?
->
-> hn> We went to both, and had a great time!
->
-> Petrified forest would have been more interesting, IMO. Then, too, I've
-> always been a bit of a rock hound. Did you see that a mine in NC gave
-> up an emerald that came out to a cut of 64 carats, largest on record?
-> Google Carolina Emporer and see a picture of it.
->
You would have found the petrified forest a
tough task for you...unpaved paths
through wooded hillsides, with rocks
sticking out  making footing quite
hazardous. Giant redwood trees
were laying horizontally and they
dug out around them so they would
be viewable. About 3/4 mile trail up
and down hills ending at the starting
point (the souveinier shop) I bought a
fossilized clam!!
->
-> hn> Hotter'n blazes though! Temps up into
-> hn> the triple digits, but low enough humidity
-> hn> that we managed to survive till we got
->
-> Be glad you don't live there.
->
Can I get an AMEN From the congregation on that??

-> hn> back to the coast...where it was in the
-> hn> 90's! Worked the AC in the hotel as
-> hn> hard as we could!
->
-> Been there, done that for less intense temps but higher humidities.
->
I'm glad the humidity was as low as it
was!

-> -> hn> We sat and watched Duck Soup last night
->
-> -> As long as you didn't play "Duck, Duck, Goose" with the students, I
-> -> guess that's OK. (G)
->
-> hn> No running about for me! It was a good
-> hn> visit, as always too short, but fun and
-> hn> we made the most of it. On the way home
->
-> Those are always bittersweet--nice to visit but hard to get back to
-> "normal". We had to go up to NY to see Steve's mom, even tho it was a
-> short trip. She had 4 of her 5 kids in the area; I think it helped her
-> psychlogically to see #5 as well. And, my dad especially, appreciated
-> our 13 hour visit.
->
Glad she's doing better!
->
-> hn> we came through Ashland Oregon while a
-> hn> huge fire was being fought right alongside
-> hn> the Freeway. Helicopters were dropping
-> hn> water from a nearby lake only yards from
->
-> And you were hoping they had good aim. (G) We went thru a section of
-> wild fires (on the opposite side of the road) the first time we drove up
-> from GA to visit SEBTS. It wasn't large enough for water drops tho.
->
They had very good aim...I told
Anne that we could go back later
and see if any trout got cooked...but
we didn't make it (grin)
->
-> hn> the highway. Saw on the news that night
-> hn> that 11 homes were burned to the ground.
-> hn> My guess is that a careless smoker tossed
-> hn> a smouldering butt out the window as
-> hn> they drove along...and left destruction in
->  hn> their wake.
->
-> Sounds like it. While we were in AZ, one fire on post was started by
-> the heat of acar muffler just pulled off to the side of the road for a
-> few minutes. Didm't help that the area was hot & dry anyway.
->
So tragic for those folks to lose their
homes. And more than likely due to
one person's lazy carelessness.
->
chat with you soon!
