Ärende: Stuff!
==============
Hi Ruth,

-> I need to think about it a bit. Anyway, the original recipe is gone so
-> it will have to be something else.

 RH> Peaches and pineapple do very nicely on the grill....

True, but only the meat got grilled. The fruit got cooked (poached?) in
the honey/vinegar sauce.

-> RH> Beagles usually do. They're scent hounds, so anything that smells
-> RH> interesting will attract the dog. If it smells like food, human or
->  RH> dog, it's a goner.

-> As I said, Hoover. When we were getting ready to move to HI, our down
-> the street neighbors were planning to adopt Sam, our cocker spaniel. He
-> stayed there for Thanksgiving on a trial visit while we went up to my
-> sister's in Peoria. When we got back, they said he fit right in. While
-> the turkey was being carved, a chunk fell on the floor and Sam swooped
-> right in for it. He moved down there for good a few weeks later.

 RH> Good doggie! That's a dog's second job - vacuum cleaner. The first
 RH> one is comic relief. We had a cat named Hoover for a short time,
 RH> named for
 RH> similar reasons. He was a stray my dad somehow convinced to come into
 RH> the house. Hoover would vacuum up soft cat food, if not crackers. He
 RH> got his name when we saw him catch a mouse in the house, and then kill
 RH> and dispose of his prey without skipping a beat.

The one set of kittens we got when I was growing up were advertised as
"will eat anything from caviar to ravioli." I wanted to name them caviar
and ravioli but got shot down by the rest of the family. No sense of
humor there.

-> RH> My dad could manage toast, just about. I'm not sure he could have
->  RH> gotten that can open.(LOL)

-> Wasn't he an engineer? If so, he'd get the can open somehow, maybe not
-> the conventional way but it would be opened.

 RH> He'd have designed a new can opener first, after having been unable to
 RH> discern the workings of the old one.

And starved in the meantime.

-> RH> Otherwise known as falling apart and got what he paid for? We
 RH> thought

-> In some area, yes. But, they've lived there long enough that most all of
-> them have been corrected. My younger brother is planning to buy it
-> eventually; I don't think he will have many surprises.

 RH> Many more, anyway. There are always some.

Yes, but he has lived across the street from my parents for 30 some
years and has done a lot of work in/around the house. He'd been working
on getting the cellar cleaned up bit by bit; the flood accelerated the
job for him. I understand just about all the soggy cardboard (countless
boxes mostly) is now gone, don't know how much else. If we weren't going
out west, we'd probably head up there this year for Easter break and
work on the cellar. Steve & me, with help from my dad and brother, could
probably have had most of it cleaned up within the week. But, we're
headed west instead.

-> RH> tile was embedded in the concrete subfloor. It was great for
-> RH> durability and longevity (the tiles on the floor were in perfect
-> RH> condition) but not so good for removing the tiles.

-> It was a nice thought, but the execution would have been a bit
-> difficult.

 RH> The execution was performed with a jack hammer.

That's how the floor was torn up to replace a broken kitchen pipe in our
quarters in HI. Pipes had been laid below the concrete slab. Not exactly
a quiet job.

Catch you later,
Ruth
