I enjoy that stuff quite a bit.

Mine: Coco Rosso nv - dark red, almost Syrah in color, but
with Cab poking through an overwhelming cocoa nose. On the
palate, a tiny bit green unripe Cabernet, cassis, mint,
pepper, and lots of chocolate. A tad too sweet but not
horribly so. Finish: long mellow cocoa. This is a Walla
Walla blended red flavored with "natural dark chocolate
flavor," and we got it sort of for a joke and partially
because we didn't have a corkscrew and were looking for
a cheap screwtop (Clancy's has a screwtop but costs
about twice what we were looking to pay). Almost an
okay - not a really good - dessert as it was; probably
not enough acid and backbone to serve with a real
dessert, though.

I just tasted Platte Valley corn whiskey from a jug. It claims
"over 30 days" and has a picture of the stereotypical hillbilly
- reports indicate that it's 3 years old, though not in anything
that would give it color or flavor, so it looks like diluted pee
and tastes weakly of booze and more strongly of impurities. Some
stone fruit, some popcorn sweetness. I didn't care for it. It
costs real money, but bear in mind that the empty jugs are going
for almost as much as the full ones, sometimes more, which
reminds me about the story about the choupique - you take your
fish and put it on a plank and roast it, and when it's done, you
throw away the fish and eat the plank. The stuff was originally
from Missouri, but Heaven Hill snapped up the rights and now
makes it in Kentucky along with Henry McKenna, Elijah Craig,
Evan Williams, J.W. Dant, and other name brands.

Call it what you like - grinnell, blackfish, cypress trout
but old-timers called this fish dinner. Fillet the fish with
the skin on. Turn skin side down, and use a spoon to scrape
flesh from in between the bones. Mix with green onions,
mashed potatoes, breadcrumbs, one beaten egg, and Cajun
seasoning. Pan-fry in shallow oil.
