Depending on what you are looking for, if you are in the market for a
cell phone, you could get one with a clock/alarm function and use it for
that purpose. If not, then I suspect an iPod would have similar
functionality, but you would not have the benefit of being able to make
phone calls with it.

I got a Motorola Droid when we switched to Verizon. It has ben serving
as my alarm since I got the charging stand for it. It has the added
benefit of letting me choose the music to which I will awake. I can
change it when the one tune gets too annoying.

Ruth's phone could do likewise, but she does not generally use the alarm
function on her phone.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.04

      Title: Schinken-Ananas-Croissants
 Categories: Snacks
      Yield: 4 portionen

      8 sl Gek. Schinken, ca.
           - 200 g Gesamtgewicht
      8    Ringe Ananas, abgetropft
      8    Croissants
    100 g  Weiche Butter
      1 ts Dijon-Senf
      4 tb Mango-Chutney

  Ofen  auf  190  oC  (Gas  2-3)  vorheizen.   8  Stueck
  Aluminiumfolie  zum Einwickeln  von  je  einem  Croissant
  zurechtschneiden.   Croissants  ein- schneiden, ohne die Spitzen
  durchzuschneiden.  Butter und Senf vermischen, Crossaints damit
  innen  bestreichen.   Je  2  Ananasringshaelften  in  ein gebuttertes
  Croissant  geben.   Je  eine mit Chutney bestrichene Schinken-
  scheibe zusammenrollen und auf die Ananasscheiben in jedes Croissant
  geben. Obere Croissanthaelfte andruecken  und  jedes  Croissant  in
  Folie wickeln. Eingewickelte Croissants auf einem  Backblech  15
  Min.   im  Ofen  backen. Heiss oder gerade warm servieren.

  Wer  kein  Chutney  im  Hause  hat  oder  es  nicht  mag, kann es
  jederzeit weglassen.

Translation:
Ham-pineapple croissants
8 slices of cooked ham, about 200 grams in weight
8 pineapple rings, drained
8 croissants
100 grams butter, softened
1 ts Dijon mustard
4 tb Mango chutney

Preheat oven to 190 degrees C (375 degrees F). Cut 8 pieces of aluminum
foil for wrapping the croissants. Cut croissants, but do not cut through
the points. Mix the butter and mustard and spread this on the cut sides
of the croissants. Put two pinapple ring halves in each croissant. Take
a slice of ham, spread chutney on it and roll it. Then place a slice in
each croissant on the pinapple slices. Press each crossant half on top
and wrap each croissant in foil. Place wrapped croissants on a baking
tin and bake for 15 minutes in the oven. Serve hot or just warm.

The one who has no chutney in the house or just does not like it can
leave it off at any time.
