As for my own dates, Continental was having weird
fare sales, but I didn't pull the trigger on any
of them - first it was east coast to Seattle for
an astonishing $230 including a free stopover in
Mexico City or Bogota (I wasn't interested but
have friends who bought up to 10 of these), then
east coast to Seattle connecting in San Fran for
$230, no weird routing but no free stopover; when I
tried to jump on that, it had gone away. The fares
are now over $400 - if they come down into the
$300s I'll buy.

Sounds like a deal. I've been having a tough
time getting people to eat spicy food with me -
aside from Nicholas, whom I don't see much these
days, my dining friends are pretty wussy.

The Red Sox have transformed magically into the Red
Sux and are now under .200 for the first time in
how long? The only reason they didn't lose yesterday
is that they were rained out.

I have no reason not to insult Texas and Texans.
Aside from smoked brisket, the place has little to
recommend it; and, though I have true and faithful
friends there, most of the population is annoying in
the extreme and has a disproportionately large
political influence.

Long-horn brisket sauce
cat: bbq
yield: 6 c

beef fat (cut from brisket)
2 1/2 c ketchup
1 c Worcestershire sauce
1 c lemon juice
1/2 c brown sugar firmly packed
1/2 c chopped onion
1/2 c water
1 ts cayenne pepper
1 ts paprika

Cut fat into 1/2" pieces. Heat in a large skillet
until melted. Pour 1 c of fat into a saucepan. Stir
in remaining ingredients. Cook over low heat until
thick, about 1 hr. Better the next day.

M would add lots of cumin and cayenne and
omit most of the brown sugar and ketchup.
