=====================
Hi Nancy,

RH> Could be, we've had issues with the thermometer before but usually a
RH> battery change has resolved the problem. It's nothing big but we like
RH> knowing what the indoor & outdoor temps are sometimes. Helps us to

NB> I hear you. We have an ancient (probably cheap, even) one in a dining
NB> room window that came with the house (we bought the house 38 years
NB> ago). It can substantiate the feeling that the heat should have come
NB> on hours ago, and let one know that a jacket is definitely a good idea
 NB> for outside... ;)

Yours probably is simple, ours is new fangled electronics.

RH> Out of the way but handy when I need them. The refurbished board would
RH> not have fit into the rack because of its feet.

NB> Less convenient, even if it was a very nice one... :)

Yes, sigh! But, someone is (hopefully) putting it to good use. Steve
gave her a 30 second lesson in caring for it before she left the shop.

NB> NB>> And he told me how well it worked for that, as well...

RH> The bread is gone; it made four rounds. Two went down to some Afghani
RH> friends; we kept 2 and finished the last with supper tonight. They're
RH> good with kalua style pork stuffed into them. (G)

NB> Nice thick pocket bread... :) Good for substantial fills... :)

Yes, now we can make the Turkish style doners like we had in Berlin.

NB> RH>> a bit longer before going back to school so we're pretty well
NB> set on RH>> things like fry pans. My favorites are my 9" and 10" cast
NB> iron pans. NB>> Some might have worn out their favorite ones... ;)

RH> It's possible; our first cookware set lasted only 5 years. We were
RH> given a teflon lined, lightweight aluminum set as a wedding present. it
RH> wasn't the best on the market by a long shot so when it began to fall
RH> apart, we replaced it with the Rangetoppers.

NB> I'm still using a stainless set that Richard's mom had bought and
NB> rarely used, so passed it on to us. I had a cheap aluminum set of
NB> pans, bought when I got my first apartment (or maybe it was for
 NB> Richard's first
NB> apartment, when I was helping him cook.. by the time I got mine he was
NB> living at home so I got the supplies) that actually still are in use
NB> too, somewhat dented, but they didn't have a lining, so they still
NB> work for some things. The largest one became Richard's dedicated
 NB> stovetop popcorn maker.. :)

We had a pot for a while (Steve had it before we were married), then
went to a hot air popper. Went back to a pot for a bit, had a stove top
crank popper in GA and now we're back to a hot air popper. Our first
ktten knew where the first pot was/when we pulled it out & our cocker
spaniel knew the sound of the first hot air popper. Both of them
wouldn't leave us alone until they got their share of popcorn.

NB> RH>> We're hoping so. After my QoV session today he lifted the case
NB> with my RH>> sewing machine, a travel iron, current project and some
NB> other minor RH>> things into the car before I got out there.
NB> NB>> One at a time, probably didn't stress the limit too much... :)

RH> No, they were all in the one case that he lifted into the car. I semi
RH> read him the riot act but figured he wouldn't have, if he knew it
 RH> would cause pain.

NB> Sounds familiar. Pushing the limits, but hopefully carefully... He
NB> probably figured out some way to lift it without bending or twisting,
NB> and was prepared to not continue if it did cause pain... :)

I suspect he grabbed it by the side handles and squatted to lift it. It
was a distance of only a couple of feet so it shouldn't have caused too
much pain. He didn't say it did.

RH> We took that machine (by itself, with the controls)
RH> to be serviced yesterday; I put it in the car but Steve pulled it out
RH> at the place where it will be worked on. Just a basic tune up and
RH> tweaking of the tension; its gotten a lot of use this past year.

NB> And you have plenty more projects planned, for which you need it in
 NB> good working order... :)

That's my travel machine but it gets a lot of work out. Most projects
are done on my Pfaff, the work horse.

RH> And I know we'll be seeing the report here. Hopefully it's good news
RH> and Richard can go back to a semi normal routine.

 NB> Hopefully.

RH> Is he using this time to try any cooking?

NB> Nope. He's still leaving that to me. We did get one meal from the
NB> church this week, giving me a little break... :) One of our
NB> gluten-intolerants from church made us a chicken teriyaki with rice.
NB> She used a low-sodium soy sauce, so it wasn't too salty. I hadn't the
NB> heart to tell her that we prefer dark chicken (she made a point of
NB> telling me that it really was white chicken breast, just that the
NB> teriyaki marinade made it look dark) and brown rice (she made white
NB> rice, of course). It was tasty all the same, and made two meals, as
NB> there was plenty of it. The second night I tossed in some fresh
NB> mushrooms (after steaming them) to balance the sodium even further,
NB> and make a little variety.. :) We certainly appreciated the thought
NB> and the love behind the meal. :)

Those are the times you just smile and say "thank you". Been there, done
that.
