I honestly don't ever remember it being taken to the car... ;)  We were
admonished to eat it carefully...  and I think that it just being bread,
there was less mess likely... perhaps a few crumbs, but I don't even
remember much of that happening... :)

Of course you had only the two girls...  We were up to five kids, and
then six, during those years...  ;)  No changes of outfits for us, we
just had to make sure we didn't muss things... and, as I said, just
having bread made for less mess likely...

Daddy could make a beef roast last for at least three supper meals... We
may have had that for Sunday dinner, once we had an oven with time-bake.
But roasts and hams were more likely done other than on a Sunday.  I
remember doing the cross-hatching of the ham, and putting in a clove at
each intersection...  then often brown sugar was patted down over the
top... I'm sure that lasted forever, too...  we didn't get large
portions...

We had a very good time together... and I think the idea of being taken
out rather than just invited to someone's house was a bit of a novelty. 
It also was very good food... the standard never since met by any other
Chinese buffet place...  :)

Sounds like that one was memorable for more than one reason... :)
