More like your nose gets numb from the abuse.

I'll pass on that, I have a sewerage treatment plant nearby that when the wind
is out of the south-east (which is, thankfully, rare) adds a certain aroma to
the area. Out on the briny the ocean has little smell beyond a bit of a salt
tang if some spray from breaking waves, bow waves, etc. is present. It's near
the shore that the rotted seaweed, dead barnacles on pier pilings, seagull
guano, broken shellfish (left by those same gulls), etc. adds a pong to the
atmosphere. Other Dave is more than welcome to my share of sniffs.

Did Charlie's wife ever get him off the MTA? Or possibly George O'Brien? Never
rode on the MTA so I dunno. One of the cleanest subways I ever saw was that of
Montreal.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Potatoes O'Brien
 Categories: Potatoes, Vegetables
      Yield: 4 servings

      2 tb Butter
      1 sm Onion; fine chopped
      1 sm Bell pepper; fine chopped
      4 oz Can pimentos; drained, in
           - strips
      6 md Potatoes; peeled, diced
           Oil
           Salt & pepper

  Heat butter in small skillet. Add onion and green pepper
  and cook over medium heat until tender. Stir in pimento.
  Set aside.

  In large skillet, heat 1/2 inch oil. Add diced potatoes
  and fry until brown and tender, turning occasionally.
  Drain; season with salt and pepper.

  Add onion mixture; toss together over high heat for 2
  minutes to heat through.
