I have been hammering away on that misconception since long before the turn of
the century. And I'll bet the farm that if a poll were taken today that a
majority of Americans (and not just the two-tooth Bubbas) will equate sushi
with sashimi (raw fish).

I used to tell patrons at a gas station where I worked part-time "There are two
things necessary to have in stock for life in these United States - gasoline
and toilet paper." It generally worked as intended - to defuse a rant over the
increasing pump prices of gasoline. Alao got more than a few smiles and quite a
few thoughtful looks.

Glen Jamieson wrote glowingly here several years ago about encountering a biffy
in India with a warm water bidet-like facility for washing ones bum after doing
his business. I thought at the time "What a wonderful concept. Why don't we
have them here?"
 
Speaking of whom - has anyone heard anything from the old Tin Hip Reprobate?
It's been several months since he replied to any postings on the remnants of
Kevin's UTGT mailing list that I have maintained since Kevin left in a snit (or
a bus).

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Godzilla Roll
 Categories: Five, Oriental, Snacks, Seafood, Rice
      Yield: 12 Servings
 
      6    Sheets nori
      3 c  Cooked sushi rice
     12    Frozen tempura shrimp
           Teriyaki sauce
           Hot sauce
 
  Bake or fry tempura shrimp as directed on the package.
  
  Cut tails off the tempura shrimp.
  
  Slice tempura shrimp in half lengthwise.
  
  Roll the sushi inside-out, using 1/2 a sheet of nori
  instead of a whole sheet, and 2 slices of tempura shrimp
  (one whole shrimp) as your filling.
  
  Drizzle teriyaki sauce over the roll, and squeeze a
  stripe of hot sauce along the roll. Enjoy!
  
  Makes: 12 rolls
