Hi Nancy,

RH> I took a couple of days off--busy week end and getting stitches in my
RH> right index finger (cut it on a food processor blade). Ouch, yes, but
 RH> doing better now.

NB> Ouch indeed... glad you are doing better now. :) I've been a bit
NB> slowed down still myself... mostly other people taking up more time
NB> that I'd planned for, so not leaving enough for messaging... :)

I know, I've not had time to do all I need to. Been spending a lot of
time on the internet lately.

NB> RH>> Yes, and the latest news is that if he continues on the same
NB> pace of RH>> recovery, he'll be home in a couple of weeks. My brother
NB> is trying to RH>> get care set up, the house re-arrainged, etc.
NB> NB>> Lots of work for your brother, but good news for your dad. :)

RH> Very good news for Dad. My brother will not have to go over to the
RH> hospital to see him, just across the street.

NB> That will be more convenient for your brother, too... except for the
NB> still needing to visit your mother... :)

He can stop on his way home from work.

NB> all around. RH>> He'll have someone in home, 24/7 to take care of
NB> him, cook meals, etc. NB>> Ah. That sounds good, all around.
 NB> Especially the 24/7 part...
NB> NB>> sounded like he was needing that.

RH> He was trying to avoid it, insisting he could take care of himself
RH> with the help of the woman who was there in the mornings.

NB> It's hard to let go of (even just perceived) independence... my
NB> neighbor had a hard time with it too...

It's normal, the "I do it" principle. (G) Besides, he knows how to cook
what he likes to eat; he'll have to teach whoever comes in how to do
that.

RH> He'll still probably refuse Meals on Wheels, at least as long as
 RH> the freezer is full.

NB> As long as he has help 24/7 that can cook properly for him, and the
NB> freezer is kept full, he wouldn't need Meals on Wheels anyway...

He's not going to buy fom the meat salesman any more; once that is used
up (it'll take a while), he will have more room for home made heat & eat
meals.

NB> NB>> Exactly... The one thing with a buffet is that you (presumably)
NB> have NB>> some control over how much gets put on your plate so that
NB> you don't NB>> have to waste any... with a served meal, the box is a
 NB> good idea... :)

RH> But if you want a bite of every this and that offered, your plate
RH> fills up fast. The old "eyes are bigger than the stomach" adage again.
 RH> (G)

NB> Well, yes, that does take extra self-control and mindfulness... Might
NB> have to choose between the plethora of offerings... ;) And listen
NB> more closely to the stomach... or maybe remember from past times what
NB> the real capacity is... ;)

I've really cut back on the amounts I eat over the last 15 years or so.
An AYCE buffet is not in danger of losing money when I go.

RH> one that was relatively low carb. Mid day meal on Tuesday we went to
RH> the Southeastern Seminary alumni luncheon. They served turkey with
RH> cornbread dressing; cranberry sauce; mix of lima beans, corn &
RH> broccoli; sweet potatoes; tossed salad; rolls and a chocolate pie for
RH> dessert. I didn't eat my sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and only a bit
RH> of the corn & beans (but all of the broccoli) and had no roll. Saved
RH> the carbs for dessert. (G) Had sandwiches for supper.

NB> No need for extra snacks in the middle with that sort of schedule,
NB> anyway... I suspect that a white potato might have been a slightly
NB> greater temptation to you than the sweet... :) But that chocolate
NB> pie sounds like it was worth saving carbs for... ;)

The pie was good. It was sitting on the table when we came in so I knew
I'd want to save carbs for it. I might have had a fork full or 2 of
white potato but not much, to save carbs for the pie.

Catch you later,
Ruth
