Annie left me a jar of Heel Tastic - apparently I've been
leaving bloody footprints again. She said approvingly that
it had lots of ingredients and that it worked. The active
ingredient is dimethicone, a silicone product that acts as
a lubricant and an antiflatulent. There are in fact a
couple dozen other ingredients, all of which do no more
than vaseline or goose grease.

It doesn't really work any better than the free hotel
lotions of which I have dozens of partially used bottles.

Linda and JJ finally made it over with the new kitty, whose
name is Ciara. I pronounce this Kira; Annie calls it Sierra;
Linda says See-ah-ra, saying it's the name of a perfume. The
cat has black junk coming out of her ear and needs a quick
trip to the vet. That was Annie's gift. Mine was a little jug
of a maltier-than-usual APA that JJ had brewed. It was a bit
undergassed, which he attributed to a defect in the seal of
the container, but otherwise pretty nice.

We fed them sandwiches made from the last of the day-after-
Christmas roast. There was plenty of fat for me to save for
later rendering fun or for on the spot munching, which I
did some of, just to be sociable. Grandma Utz's potato chips,
the yummiest ever, as they are cooked in lard. Beer.

Dinner was tamales from the Tucson Tamale Company. Annie
presented them with their brand names, which meant nothing
to us. It was as if someone brought McDonald's to a fast-
food-ignorant household and said, these are McDLTs, and
these are Big Macs, and these are McDoubles, and of course
you know what french fries are. Well:

Arizona are big and have chipotle beef stew inside;

Santa Cruz are little and have mild red beef stew inside
and an olive;

Santa Fe have cheese and pork and green chile.

It might make sense that I'd like to know what was in them
before I dove in, but Annie was thrown off by this, not
understanding why we needed to know the difference between
Arizona, Santa Cruz, and Santa Fe. I passed on the Santa Fe,
deciding they were not worth the pills.

She also made chicken enchiladas, a preview of tomorrow, but
as they were totally covered in cheese, I passed.

On the side enchilada sauces from Old El Paso - mild tasted
like V-8, medium tasted like spicy V-8.

Generally speaking, I'd say I'd have preferred McDonald's.
The Tucson Tamale Company is just a bunch of hype - the
only thing that distinguishes them from other tamales, which
are tasteless, useless blobs, hardly fit for human consumption
and in fact generally eaten only by the destitute, is that the
masa has enough salt in it, so the food isn't quite so bland
as tamales from other places than Tucson. The fillings were
pretty unexciting as well.

Also much beer, which I thought the best part of the meal.

Dessert was also a preview of tomorrow - trimmings from after
Annie sectioned the chocolate-chip blondies.

The e-mail dealt her a great blow to her new aspirations as
the hostess with the mostest - Liz, the city councillor and
head chef at the Herdic, sent her regrets for the party tomorrow,
though her parents are still coming.
